I think it's funny because honestly all I really would like is for the left to grant me the same Freedom it has decided to grant for itself.
The left pretends to fight against the great many things under the pretense that they hold then as a principle
But that's just false. They don't hold them as a general principle they hold them as a principal for themselves
For example. The left doesn't oppose discrimination. They just want to be the only ones allowed to do it.

I don't think that's possible with the current DNC (notice I picked the organization and not Democrat voters in general). That leadership has skewed so far to the fringe that the things they would want would be non-starters.

I think the bottom line politically for me is this. Many moons ago I used to call myself fiscally conservative but socially liberal. On most social issues I agreed with the stated principles laid out by liberals
But I came to realize that liberals didn't agree with their stated principles. They just wanted the stated principles to apply to them and them only
That's when I realized how truly dangerous they were
I mean I'm sorry. It takes a liberal to act like the Civil Rights Act is the greatest piece of legislation ever and Then follow it up with supporting affirmative action to include test norming and differing standards for job applicants for college applicants.

So that's a deal point. Say liberals give up affirmative action. Would you give concessions on abortion, or immigration, or tax raises, or increases in spending on social programs?

I'd legalize free on demand abortion paid for by excise taxes and support easy work visas for migrants to abolish the income tax.

As for abortion. That's not one of my core issues although I'm pro-life. But, I will say that I consider it a red herring issue at this point given that even your original post granted the idea that it's reasonable to have some restrictions.
You could have a deal TODAY with Republicans on abortion if the left would actually take that position. But, it's kinda hard to make a deal when anything short of abortion on demand until it's out of the canal is considered off limits.
