A libertarian is just a social liberal who hates taxes and likes guns.
They also think the government doing its job to actually protect freedoms is infringement.

Open borders
The libertarian party is heavily split on this. Open borders are utterly incompatible with a welfare state (and libertarians unanimously agree with dismantling the federal entitlement systems).
quote:
bad trade deals
A large part that makes trade deals bad is that we tax and regulate our industries far more here than our trade partners do. While many nations are actively involved in currency manipulation and subsidizing their industries (preventing anything from approaching a free market for many sectors), those trade deals wouldn’t look so bad when paired with more libertarian approaches to taxation and regulation.
quote:
America Last
Not compatible with Libertarianism which doesn’t just believe in America First, but America ONLY. Libertarians unanimously approve eliminating foreign aid, stopping funding overseas wars, and pulling out of institutions like the UN.

Loyalty is stupid. You side with a politician when they are pushing for policies you agree with, then you oppose them when they are not. Just because you voted for a politician doesn’t mean you agree with them 100% of the time. This board has no tolerance for nuance, integrity, or intellectual honesty. It always devolves into tribalism.
I don’t promote individual liberty to help my tribe and hurt another. I promote liberty because it is the best and most sustainable philosophy for the most people possible.
They seem to hate libertarians only when libertarians are the roadblocks to government growth by the GOP.
They then love libertarians when libertarians are the roadblocks to government growth by the Dems.
As long as libertarians roadblock governmental growth, they have my support.
Modern "conservatives" seem to forget that almost every signature on the DoI would be considered libertarian and that libertarian would be more true to constitutional conservatism than the GOP has ever been. But as long as we show those Dems....

Explain just how governmental growth protects freedoms.
Take as much time and space as you need.

Libertarianism is the modern form of Jeffersonian Democracy.
Globalist neo-liberalism/conservatism is the modern version of the Federalists.

Then why in the hell are libertarians OK with mass immigration?
Because the entire non-western world does not subscribe to your political philosophy whatsoever. Everywhere else in the world politics is 100% about loyalty and favors/punishment. Bringing up ideology to an immigrant from Haiti, Pakistan, or Congo is completely laughable. That is not how they think or view politics.

Trump pardoning Ross Ulbricht.
quote:
"I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbricht to let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross," Trump posted to his Truth Social site on Tuesday.

Increased enforcement of immigration laws and obvious taxpayer fraud might require additional government resources but result in a net freer society.

You build coalitions and make deals. They just suck as allies and partners. They are not loyal and stab their allies in the back
Imagine seeing it as a bad thing that people vote for their convictions rather than blind loyalty.

Not all of them are. Like I said, libertarians are essentially 50/50 on this issue.
The libertarians who are in favor of open borders blame mass migration on entitlement systems, fraudulent programs funded by taxpayers, employment regulations, foreign aid, and military interventionism abroad.
ALL of the above would be abolished by those libertarians. Under those circumstances, more similar to America prior to WW1, those who would immigrate here would largely do so for the right reasons and be an economic plus rather than a drain.
The libertarians who oppose mass migration see eliminating all entitlements and minimum wage laws etc as unrealistic. Thus, that closed borders are necessary to maintain a functional welfare state while libertarians attempt to incrementally decrease the size and scope of federal programs and authority over time.
In addition, there are many bought and paid for big L Libertarians who are paid by democrat operatives to attack the GOP from the right while actively supporting leftist policy outcomes.

You are smarter than this, I hope.
Tell me you don't recognize the difference between the libertarians that vote with the GOP and the few that are in the actual Libertarian Party.

I know it's not in America, but Javier Milei is down in the formerly socialist shithole country of Argentina showing the world how it's done.
The sad truth is that Americans aren't hurting bad enough to finally opening their eyes and realizing government is the source of the biggest problems in society.

Or Liberaltarian.

They put Trump back into the WH. He specifically went to go campaign to get them on board and had to promise a bunch of stuff to get their endorsement. But here you go biting the hand that feeds you.

The problem with social liberalism is that it’s usually in favor of the government paying for something: government funded abortions, “free” medical care, subsidized housing, tranny propaganda in schools, mandated sensitivity training, free free free free all at the expense of the taxpayer.
Libertarians oppose government spending on EVERYTHING that doesn’t serve preserving private property rights. Libertarians believe in people having the choice to marry whom they want, to consume what they want, produce what they want, etc.
Libertarians oppose expecting anyone but that individual paying for that behavior.

I also think most libertarians would be on board with that.
This whole hookers, blow and open borders things is way overblown.
Most libertarians I know agree that nations must have borders. I mean, we don't want just any old Tom, Dick, and Harry coming for our hookers and blow.

The next time will be the first time. Libertarianism is one of those things most conservatives grow out of by the time they're 30 years old.

Big L libertarianism (anarcho-capitalism) is as utopian, unworkable, and naïve as communism. However, many libertarian policies and principles, taken to moderation rather than extremes, would be hugely beneficial to society. Our government has been utterly out of control for many decades.

I have never understood this line of reasoning. How does one age, gain life experience, then have MORE confidence in government? Honestly asking.
