Cut the shite. The South as a region no more patriotic than the Midwest or the Mid-Atlantic. We like to wear it on our sleeves more...sort of the acceptable form of virtue signaling.

In the case of the Civil War....yep. because your interpretation of States Rights could not hold up ultimately either legislatively or on the battlefield. Stop bitching about the price paid.

Perhaps you should check out Alabama’s Catholic culture. The largest Catholic TV and broadcasting network in the world, EWTN, was founded in Birmingham.The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament is in Cullman AL and has visitors from all over the world. St. Bernard Abbey and School are also in Cullman. The first hospital in Birmingham was a Catholic hospital - St. Vincents - founded by the Sisters of Charity, a Catholic organization.
Obviously, Protestants dominate religion in the south but it’s wrong to say there is no Catholic culture in the South.

Now define Southern Culture? Are you talking about pre 1970's Texas which loved FDR? Are you talking about West Virginia Hillbilly Culture which sided with the North in the 1860's? Are you talking about moonshiners of Tennessee and Kentucky? Are you talking about the horse people of Lexington KY dripping with diamonds at local restaurants on weekend nights?
As a kid in the early 60's we played a Civil War capture the flag on weekend evenings. The South always won. The fat kids were always the Yankees. We never paid attention to monuments even my own ancestor's who was a Confederate general
