Why is Trump running as a Republican?
Ted Cruz and Rand Paul jump to mind.

Thomas Massie and Ron Desantis are two others.

It's anti-Democrat. Are we implying the biggest antithesis to Democrats in modern history is a Democrat?

There aren't plenty. I may be inclined to agree with your two picks, even though one is a libertarian, ultimately.

Trump had always been an East Coast Democrat, with fairly liberal social views, and a strong focus on Capitalism.

Point remains, he is a capitalist. That's the honest answer; he is first and foremost interested in capitalism. Money. Do what you can to make it, and it will provide you with power. He's open about that. And he applied that to the government when he was in charge, and we saw that it worked. Putting an R or a D in front of his name isn't relevant.
His whole schtick the first time boiled down to "I know what it takes to be prosperous, and if I'm elected I will run the country that way, so it will prosper". And he did just that, and for some reason enough people opposed it and pushed him out. Those who were losing money because of him convinced enough of the electorate to go back to 'business as usual'.

Your desperation is palpable
Also, because the 2nd greatest president in my lifetime said this

The Republican Party, both in this state and nationally, is a broad party. There is room in our tent for many views; indeed, the divergence of views is one of our strengths.
We must keep the door open – offering our Party as the only practical answer for those who, overall, are individualists. And because this is the great common denominator – this dedication to the belief in man’s aspirations as an individual – we cannot offer them a narrow sectarian party in which all must swear allegiance to prescribed commandments.

Yep. He is a moderate Democratic Capitalist. He only appears right because Democrats have moved so far left.

That guy with fairly liberal social views got Roe v Wade overturned with his three Supreme Court justices.

I actually like that idea. And why not?

It would make sense. He wants the benefit of running as a Republican, but he is not a conservative so... why not run as an Independent ... which I think he really is. Then let Joe Manchin run as an Independent, Biden run as a DEM and DeSantis as a Republican. I'm sick of both of the major parties.
Posted on 5/8/23 at 7:35 pm to texag7
Of course you have NOTHING to back that up. Always Trumpers do not like Real Conservatives, so posting some non-sense like this is the typical bs response.

He had four years and did NOT make government smaller. More nonsense from the Always Trumpers.
"he wants smaller government"
"he wants smaller government"

Didn't read the article, but the first paragraph summarized what I was remembering ...
"Donald Trump was once a Democrat. He was also an Independent. In chronological order, since 1987, he has been registered Republican, Independent, then Democrat, back to Republican, back to Independent, and then back to Republican."
LINK
Another not so great source says bascially the same thing:
"Donald Trump registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987; since that time, he has changed his party affiliation five times. In 1999, Trump changed his party affiliation to the Independence Party of New York. In August 2001, Trump changed his party affiliation to Democratic. In September 2009, Trump changed his party affiliation back to the Republican Party. In December 2011, Trump changed to "no party affiliation" (independent). In April 2012, Trump again returned to the Republican Party.[4]"
LINK
... in short, I believe both are at least close to accurate.

That is a pretty good summary.
