In response, educational leaders and policymakers across the country are eager to reverse these trends and catch these students back up to where they would have been.
Failing slightly less?

It is common now to see 2nd-3rd graders in large parts of this state that cannot read to any degree, and the sample I've seen is a majority POC. Situation is fairly dire with respect to their future prospects and that die has been cast by age 7. I know many people who still don't think this is a dire situation because "kids are flexible, they'll be able to catch up". I don't see how that happens, it strikes me as pure hopium.
Kids can catch up. But they can only do that with outstanding instruction. Guess what they’re not going to get? Outstanding instruction.

Students of color have long needed more from schools than is typically provided.
The only impactful "systemic racism" found in the country is public education, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat party ... the Dem party being home to the vast majority of actual racists in the US.

They can't get "outstanding instruction" when a class of 30 kids all need differentiated levels of learning. "Full inclusion" has been the ruin of government education. Before all the woke stuff was so abundant in schools, my wife and I decided we would sacrifice however possible to homeschool for this very reason. So far, so good.

In most urban districts, there’s not much differentiation needed. Everyone is reading two grades below.
But your point is spot on. My daughters have been privately educated since elementary school. The secret is to never tally up how much is spent on private schooling.
