Yep

The greatest lie humanity ever conceived was that we are somehow "special" relative to other animals, the planet and the universe. It's a lie we've told ourselves for so long that it's just second nature to us now.

I've said it before, but go pick a fight with a chimp without a knife, gun, etc. and you'll find out just how "special" nature thinks you are.

If aliens from another planet show up worshipping a god similar to the christian one, I would seriously re-evaluate my stance on christianity because that would be very compelling objective evidence.
it would only be evidence of them succombing to the same set of superstitions. That would be fascinating, but would it rise to the level of proving the existence of God? Hardly.

Our ability to create these is what makes us special, not our physical strength.

Relative to this planet's creatures, we are special. That isn't exactly up for debate. We kinda standalone.

That doesn't mean we can't be killed by the rest of nature though.

That's not at all what I meant. We are special. We are the first and only species on this planet to achieve the intellect and powers of creation that we have now. I was simply stating that if we run into a species of alien that is as much different from us as we are from chimps, but in the other direction, we would be in out of our league.

It would certainly open up a lot more interest in the subject for me. as for now i'm just going to go on assuming if you think you have the answer to this 100% you're either a fool or extremely arrogant.

So you're saying that if aliens from another planet millions of light years away showed up with a holy book talking about a Jesus figure and tenants that matched christianity's, that wouldnt at least make you think about it?

At that point, we'd be doing the same thing we accuse christians of: Ignoring the evidence. You'd have to at least think deeply about it. The odds of an alien race coming up with the same religion by chance are effectively nonexistent.

Are sharks special? They can breathe underwater, we certainly cant do that.

What about birds? They can fly, we cant.

What about plants? They can make their own sugar from sunlight, air and water.

We're the sum of our evolutionary parts, designed for a specific niche just like every other living creature. The fact that our neocortex is bigger doesnt make us special, it makes us different. There are endless habitats which animals thrive in that would kill us quickly, technology or no technology.

I've always thought it would be extremely arrogant of us to think we are exclusive in the cosmos.
Just as it is extremely arrogant of us to think that if there is a God, he would send his only son to this (of all) planets.

With regards to Atheists, if they are right, they will never know and if we are wrong, they will never know..

Most atheists/agnostics dont think about it in terms of right or wrong. The ones who actually came to the conclusion through research and deep questioning (not the hipster 20-somethings who think its cool because it pisses their parents off or makes them trendy) think more about why people believe what they believe.

I will consider you one of the arrogant ones. That's my only explanation for you thinking you know what my beliefs are.

Luckily, my self-validation does not require me to be correct in this matter.

You believe a dog's life is ultimately meaningless, assuming you dont believe in a doggie afterlife. Doesnt mean the dog doesnt experience joy, sorrow, pain, etc. and it certainly doesnt mean it cant enjoy life.

The idea that life is meaningless without god may be true objectively (just as we all view the dog's life to be objectively meaningless) but subjectively its nonsense. God isnt necessary for personal joy and satisfaction unless that is what you derive joy and satisfaction solely from.
