Have you watched any of the debates? His whole campaign is about being the moderate candidate. While the other candidates always try to out progressive each other Pete always chimes in with a well thought, middle of the road answer.

Being so arrogant as to think your values are universal isn’t wise, but here you are.
I never professed to promote any values. I’ve consistently said that voters should choose the President based on the issues that affect them. What IS arrogant is dismissing a candidate simply because you don’t like who they go to bed with at night. And looking at some of the cute gay jokes on this board tonight, you’d think it was 1981. Let’s get back to actually debating issues instead of shamelessly attacking people’s personal lives. Some of you are acting like you’re closeted and have some kind of internalized homophobia, and it’s actually pretty sad.

Either DavidtheGnome doesn't understand politics, or else he's just trolling.

Depends on the election
Buttigieg would lose before the election was ever held because of his sexuality and policy wouldn’t even matter. Between that issue mobilizing the religious conservatives and keeping millions of blacks and Hispanics who would otherwise vote for the democrat home, he’d get crushed.

Of course not, no serious person is watching those for anything but horror and/or lulz. I read his website. He’s a fricking lunatic.

Go on his website and read his platform and then get back to me on the centrist thing.

This is key phraseology that is 100 percent effective at identifying people who can’t articulate a position.

If he was straight he would get crushed, because he’s a lunatic.

You keep saying this, but tell us the issues where he's moderate.
Is he for:
The Green New Deal?
Higher taxes?
Reparations?
Universal Healthcare?
If you're going to try and sell your boy as a moderate, at least be specific.

Mayor Pete has certainly never made gay sex a theme of his campaign. So I think that says more about you than it does him.

I don’t think there’s any real fear of homosexuals, there’s just a lot of people who don’t like them and more specifically what they do. This includes huge segments of the democratic voting base they can’t afford to lose.

No i will not vote for a gay man to represent the United States of America as the commander in chief
eta: this shite isnt rocket science. He is representing America. I will not vote for a cocksucker who takes it up the arse for President. Will never vote for that

Blacks won’t vote for him at all. Only shot he could possibly have is putting an African American on the ticket as his VP to give the AA community an out on voting for a gay guy.

Why would a conservative vote for any Democrat?
So you wouldn't vote for the best person for job no matter what political party he/ she belongs to? What if a Democratic candidate was better overall than a Republican candidate.

Simply pointing out that there have been more references on this board tonight to gay culture than gay people actually make themselves, which is extremely curious. I’m not sure what you’re talking about when it comes to my position; my position hasn’t changed. I don’t support Mayor Pete because I believe in free markets just as much as I believe in the freedom to do whatever you want with your personal life, because I’m not affected by it at all. I’m pretty secure in who I am that I don’t feel the need to incessantly demonize marginalized groups of society.

I personally don’t think you’re in the minority. I think you’re small with a shallow mind and only say these things behind a keyboard, but you’re not in the minority when it comes to any of those things.
Buttigieg isn’t a “centrist” at all, and his policy ideas would be dreadful for America, but it has nothing to do with him being gay. I’d absolutely vote for a homosexual who ran on a platform I agreed with.

A few observations about this thread:
1). Davidthegnome, I agree with you. OF THE DEMOCRATIC candidates, he about as center as you can get excluding Biden. Not sure how people in this thread cannot comprehend that.
2) The homophobia that still exists today (including 70% of the posts in this thread) is disheartening to see still exists. The double standards that exist are unreal. The fact people won’t vote for someone based on sexual orientation is near identical to the Neanderthal brained racist diners of the mid 1900s that wouldn’t serve black customers.
