They’re all not meant to be for human consumption. Cook with beef tallow or avocado oil. You can use olive oil for salad dressings and when no heating is required. Avocado oil has a higher burning point. Coconut oil is a good oil too as well as a grassfed organic butter. There’s no need to buy seed oils. They need to disappear.

As a general rule of thumb, read the ingredients label and if you don’t recognize an ingredient/have difficulty pronouncing it, your body won’t recognize it either (as it shouldn’t).

I have not tried the app!

I agree with most everything in your post, except MAYBE that the app is trash. IDK but it sounds like a good idea.

Breads here in the USA suck arse. I am considering this fall planting some Spelt. Spelt is an old competitor to wheat. I is more on the weed side in that it grows well on infertile soil and is just more hardy.

The only reason it fell out of favor was because it was harder to remove the chaff compared to wheat.

When I told my wife my plan. She was on the same wavelength because she had already bought a bread maker.

Bread in the US is crap health wise compared to what they have in Europe. It is hard to avoid bread and this might be an alternative that really cuts a lot of the garbage I (most everyone) consumes.

Any idea on how they go about their scoring? I downloaded it and will check it out but I’m just curious.

I have no green thumb but I have done some research on healthier store bought flour and have made a couple loaves of bread at home and they taste so much better than store bought bread. Once you get the yeast activation technique down it's super easy. Just time consuming of course.

The ones with the highest ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3. Grapeseed oil is the worst of the lot.

PBS of all places has the best breakdown here:

Thanks for the heads-up. I downloaded it and what I scanned in the kitchen is an eye opener. And by that I mean, damn I thought I was eating halfway healthy. Guess not

We've been using it since our little one started preschool. It's shocking how incredibly shitty our food is in the US.

Additionally though, some products I fully expected to be a 0/100 are fine. For example: Chef Boyardee. We don't eat it, but our little one devours it. No preservatives, no harmful chemicals, that one surprised me a lot. Mrs. Cotten saw they just got bought by a PE firm, so I'm certain that will be changing soon.

Combine Yuka with Bobby Approved and you are really on to something. Yuka doesn’t rate seed oils as bad and Bobby Approved helps to locate organic stuff at various stores. Bobby Approved also has YouTube videos which are helpful.

some random tomato sauce we bought at aldi was like 93/100. i'm gonna scan everything there the next time we go. will be curious about their cereals which they tout as not having any dyes, etc.

My son started using this app a year or so ago. We’ve now scanned and replaced, when needed, most of our food and skin products. I’m obsessed with the app.

Try sourdough. I used to hate it because what I got in the store did not taste great. Making it is really quite easy and it will ruin you forever on store bought anything. It is also supposed to be easiest on the gut flora and because most of the carbs get processed by the live culture, it has a much lower glycemic index than other types of bread.
