Also just read that Ibra has now become the first player to generate 200M in transfers. Absolutely amazing when you think about it.

Just to add why I don't think Milan will spend very much of this money. The football team reported losses of 75 million euros last year. The consolidated Milan group reported losses of 68 million. They simply cannot generate the revenue to spend. Selling Ibra and Silva allows them to move them off their payroll, which was at 200 million euros. I imagine that saves them something like 20 million at the minimum. I imagine that getting players like Zambrotta, Gattuso, Van Bommel, Seedorf, Nesta, and Inzaghi off the payroll probably saved them quite a bit of money to. So this deal, combined with the other moves they've made this summer, probably puts back around 110 million euros into the team, not all of which they can spend. I'd imagine they might have around 40 million euros to spend on players and wages, which isn't really very much at all.

AC Milan managing director Adriano Galliani. ‘The country has changed; our economy has changed,’ said Galliani. ‘Italian football reflects the crisis in the country. We have to aim at balancing our books. Get it into your heads: the big stars are not coming to Italy any more. They are searching for more succulent deals.’

It wasn't but ten years ago that the Italian league was the best league in Europe. I imagine that the young crop of Italian stars will move abroad until things get better.

Berlusconi needs the cash to run for PM again.

.27 goals per appearance compared to .285 goals per appearance.
ones a midfielder and ones a striker.
Take away Andy's nationality and he's just not that great.. sorry.

How quickly you forget age, potential and his 11 goals in 18 appearances last year for Newcastle. He will succeed if he is played in the right system. He isn't set up to succeed at Liverpool. You throwing those stats out shows how little you have actually watched him.

I didn't say he was bad.. just not worth 9 million more than Dempsey. Switch their nationalities and they'd be an even swap at worst.

Yes he is young, but I don't really see that high of a ceiling for him.

No they aren't so stop saying that.

But we are talking about the English transfer market. There is literally no way to take away his nationality when it comes to his transfer price. Carroll will be priced more than Dempsey because of his age, his nationality, and his size, which favors a British style of play. Dempsey is on the tail end of his career, in the last year of his contract, and isn't a homegrown talent. In what world would Dempsey be more expensive than Carroll?

I understand why you think that, but I completely disagree. He has all the qualities to be a dominant centre forward in the English game.

Someone (I mean Jumbo) needs to watch him before he came to Liverpool. He was like the left-footed version of Alan Shearer. Absolutely dominant in the air and decent enough on the ground. The fact he couldn't fit in at Liverpool is more a reflection of the fact that he was never the focal point of the attack.

I think comparing him to Alan Shearer is a little kind. I don't think (and I do freely admit I haven't watched him a whole lot...maybe 10 games) Andy has anywhere near the amount of football intelligence that Shearer had, as well as his positioning and the timing of his runs.
BUT he is young, so that can be developed to a certain extent.

Exactly. He is almost an exact mold of Shearer. He struggled at Liverpool because: 1. He wasn't given regular time in the PL 2. The team lacked a footballing identity 3. He had to play alongside Suarez who became the focal point of the offense.
Liverpool tried to build a typical English squad under Dalglish, but ultimately failed.
Dempsey will never be worth more than Carroll because ultimately a classic centre forward will always be worth more in the English game than a scoring midfielder. Notice no other player on Fulham's squad scored more than 6, while Dempsey had to carry the scoring burden. In the long run that just isn't a sustainable model.

Maybe, but when he was at Newcastle, he was a good player. He wasn't as mobile, but he had a damn fine shot, and was excellent at being the focal point of the offense.

You need to watch more games. When he plays, he is completely dominant. I've never seen anyone with his aerial ability.
I would love to keep him at LFC, but hope he moves on to a squad that will utilize him properly. I really like the guy and I just don't see him fitting into Rodgers' system.

I'm not denying his areal ability. I just don't think the intelligence is there, and when you aren't gifted with a super smooth touch you have to always be in the right place, and you have to always make the right run at the right time.

I think Andy is a really good young player but he's got a long way to go before he can even carry Alan Shearer's jock.
