That's not true. Arsene allowed him freedom last year and now suddenly the spin is he has terrible defensive positioning. He can be a very solid DM and is a capable CB in a pinch. 3 years control, young and improving. 15mil pounds is too little a return. Selling a player out of spite is not a good way to do business. But it'll be another great move on paper for Arsene. Bought him for around ~750k.

His former coach at the national level says he's all about attacking (Javier Clemente).
He likes him, ALOT, but considers him 'meh' as a defender.
Clemente is all about D.

He was always very good for us at CB when he played there. I imagine he'll be playing there more for Barca than DM.

He has to be told, and the reminded, to stay at home. He is a great defensive midfielder when he is in the right mindset. It seems he is determined to be an attacking midfielder though and that is when he suffers defensively.

Eh. I think that's not entirely true. He played more advanced last year because we told him to.

It's not true at all. He was told to win the ball high up the pitch. Arteta played behind him for most of last season. He's a fine DM, but he's always had a pass in him. He's more of a box to box player than a DM. The only time he's really played as a DM was the 2009 season when we played the 4-1-4-1. He was rarely out of position then. In 2010/11 and 2011/12 he was a box to box player who had equal attacking and defensive responsibilities.

Yeah. I don't think Song is irreplaceable, but some of the spin from Arsenal fans about him is ridiculous.
Sahin will be finalized at the beginning of the week. Loan with first option to buy if Real sell him. Still looking for a true DM.

Well I think Wenger knows Song is replaceable. I remember when he first came to us, he was awful. Wenger molded Song into the player he is now. He's now the best passing midfielder on the African continent. He is Wenger's greatest coaching job.

Very likely so. Bought for 750k as an unknown. for years Wenger said he couldn't play midfield because he wasn't in shape. ended up being a valuable contributor.

People don't remember how shite he was for a long time. I guess Song doesn't remember either. I hope Coquelin and Frimpong get a chance. I really like Frimpong, as he is a physical specimen. Not a great passer, but neither was Song when he first started playing. Hell, Diaby is very average passing the ball as well.

Very true. His Charlton loan spell was beneficial as well. Wish Frimpong had been able to complete his. I'd assume he'd be sent out again. I doubt Coquelin will get much PT considering it looks as if we'll be adding Sahin and maybe M'Vila.
Also, Arshavin put something on his website today which made it sound like he might be gone.

What do you Arsenal fans think about Nuri Sahin's upcoming year-long loan?
Posted on 8/19/12 at 3:59 pm to Keys Open Doors
I really like it. I wanted us to buy him when Cesc was leaving.
Posted on 8/19/12 at 4:10 pm to Keys Open Doors
Excited. Hope we end up buying him.

I told hat that if Arsenal sold Song, they'd get Sahin to lessen the blow. I'm a huge Sahin fan from his time with BVB. I think he'll do well with the Gooners

I think this really helps in a transition to Arsenal. Love the way that BVB plays.
