hard to compare this to covid shutdowns or labor strikes in my opinion

only thing comparable that comes to mind was cancellation of things due to the 9/11 attacks, can accept that due to it being ordinary americans that were affected.

Imagine you are an American who has planned the trip of a lifetime to see your first EPL game this weekend and it’s canceled for nonsense.

COVID may be a stretch, and England shut it down too, but not playing over Jacob Blake is infinitely more egregious.

Even with 9/11 there was a huge shock factor and security concern though.

it will never stop until brits themselves put an end to it.

they can't help but worship and pay monetary tribute to the nobility in their countries, it is how they have been programmed for centuries.

It’s a bit nuts. Athletes play through all sorts of family matters they don’t cancel the entire league for what might be two weeks.

That, and the fact that it was three thousand people vs one 96 year old.

Let the downvotes rain, but I’m not totally against the cancellation. Obviously I don’t prefer it, but we Americans don’t understand the honoring involved like Britains do regarding the nature of the historic position and significance. Monarchy has been around for over 1000+ years and that takes precedence over a 100+ year recreational tradition.

They aren't mutually exclusive though imo.

The other side of the coin is that you can use the huge stages the games would have provided to honor her life in a very public way. I get it, I just prefer the alternative.

Imagine giving a shite about a monarch. Insane that monarchs even exist in 2022. I don’t wish any ill on them, but it’s just weird that it’s still a thing.

ETA: didn’t realize we had people on this board who actually care about the English royal family, you bunch of cucks

I think he might have a point if Premier League players were lobbying to postpone the games, but I don’t think they are

Irrespective of whether or not you agree with the sentiment, it’s an entirely different situation

From what I’ve seen, the sentiment of pretty much everyone who’s not a tone deaf administrator was for playing. Combine that with the fact that even the bourgeois sports went ahead…

They canceled it all. Even kids games. The same kids they stole two years from already.

Oh and all the other sports continue.
