I don't understand what is wrong with this. It was a legitimate prediction.

Funny, if this were football, basketball, or baseball, everyone would be pumping fists over his candor. Hell, they'd even be laughing in golf. Lighten up. It's fricking sports and fricking funny.

Perhaps the poster means when Lalas called out our defenders. Incidentally, Lalas was spot on and defended Bradley when everyone was piling crap on him:
I agree with Lalas. I think Cameron has been silently fuming over that statement and finally had a breakdown in composure (go figure).

Most of you have been following the USMNT through American media a lot longer than me but I really don't have much of a problem with Lalas.
He gives his opinion and it's usually pretty well thought out even if often controversial (or right or wrong). No one's going to be right all the time and I always prefer controversial to homer.
He does have a prickly, somewhat condescending mannerism which I can see putting people off but it makes for more entertaining TV ( I personally don't find it anywhere nearly as annoying as Twellman's kind of "smart arse teenager" persona).

Twellman is like Zack from Wedding Crashers.

I agreed with Lalas and others on the nonsense criticism of Bradley. What I didn't appreciate was him fingering midfielders as the sole cause of USMNT problems with Portugal and Belgium. Simplistic and inaccurate.

But Lalas is a soccer expert. He gets paid to talk about the game
As if the world of talking heads is a meritocracy.

No, frick you. You are the one who makes you sound like a Lalas apologist.

By the way, I blame ESPN and their format more than I blame Lalas for some of his statements.
But that's a topic for another board.

He was pointing to the outside midfielders and he was right. Bedoya and Zusi were largely nonexistent in the attacking third.

I love the fact that, in this case, Geoff Cameron took issue with me. I’m not sure exactly what the issue was. In fact, I’ve been a great supporter of Geoff Cameron. But the fact that he wanted to stand up for himself, I love that. I’d want to play with someone like that.
And whether it’s him or anybody else, whether it’s social media or anything like that, people talking about this game, people arguing about this game, people disagreeing about this game, that’s what soccer nations are about. And if we ever hope to be like any other countries, this type of discussion has to be fostered and encouraged, obviously with respect.
I’m a big boy. Geoff’s a big boy. And I wish him well as he goes on and plays. If he ever wants to talk to me, he can certainly talk to me.

You're (see what I did there, Cameron?) about the 7th different person to say this. I'm failing to see the significance of it. He's not trying to be best buddies.
I hope Brees would never call out future Saints players. I hope Giggs never calls out future United players. Etc. You don't see Ballack being as critical of germany or Ruud to the Dutch. People like loyalty. That's why most the world thinks Roy Keane should just shut up already.
And Alexi has been doing this since atleast 2002 or whenever he started on the media side of it for the world cup. He had a chip on his shoulder like it was a daily goal to remind the viewer that A) he played on the USMNT B) that they were good too and/or that they were better than the current team.
AND he is negative. or at least a lot more negative than rest of peers on the set. He used to be notorious in criticizing and not giving much or any praise.
I would be pissed too if i was cameron. He called out me out of the 23 immediately after the loss. Keep your name out my mouth Alexi. Make a more neutral comment not a negative one if you want to continue the joke. Dont call out a player. Instead of does Cameron start? which implies there is doubt to his ability. ask Who starts at RB.
I have a hard time believing others on the set would have A) made the original comment in mentioning a player by name or B) responded to the response with a belittling comment to a player and a team that positively represented our country.
Alexi has been too critical or the USMNT and Players in the past. He commentated on the sport with a chip on his shoulder. If you don't believe this, I am not going to link soccer videos from 02, 06, and 10. I thought this was a pretty self-evident opinion from all those who took a serious following to the USMNT. And that is why a lot USMNT fans don't really like him.
I didn't realize this board had shifted so pro-Lalas though. Granted he was a lot better than he was the last time through. but I'm not completely buying him as a soccer genius or whatever people are making him out to be. In coverage I have seen Ballack or another scratch their head and look as if they just heard the most retarded thing possible.
Plus get a new pair of shoes
But in all honesty I actually liked them and thought Alexi was actually semi enjoyable this world cup, but maybe that is because i heard Taylor.

I want honest analysts above all.

Just think Alexi tries to take it too far like he is tough older brother or he is trying to prove he is unbiased by being overly harsh and critical or he has a chip on his shoulder.
Or used to. I thought he did great this Cup however. Minus a few things i disagreed with.

I think Alexi is more positive most of the time on air and in the public than he really feels. A lot of the USMNT supporters are sunshine pumpers. Alexi's discussion with me had plenty of criticisms, but he never called out a single individual player in it.
