I have seen Alex Morgan's team play ONCE on cable.

Never seen a commercial for it either.

How often is the womens league in the states on national tv?

Never. Or close to that,

Although to be fair, the WNBA is on a lot and people still don't care. Or watch.

I'm not sure this team crapping out of the Olympics is a good argument against equal pay, given that the men haven't made the tournament the past two cycles. Just playing devils advocate here.

The only argument worth making is revenue.

Which unit makes more money in a world cup year, and which makes more money in non-world cup years?

That's the only question that should answer which team gets paid which amount of money.

Also, how much of a right do you have to complain if you signed the CBA?

She was born in prison. Not exactly a great start to life.

https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/22/sports/soccer/usmnt-uswnt-soccer-equal-pay.html

quote:

The pay plans differ for the men’s and women’s national teams, who have their own players’ associations and negotiate their own collective bargaining agreements. The women’s team’s pay is a mix of a base salary — $72,000 for the majority of players on the regular roster — plus a modest game bonus ($1,350) for each game won. (The women do not receive game bonuses if they tie or lose matches.) U.S. Soccer also pays the salaries of the national team players who compete in the N.W.S.L., the nascent American women’s professional league, as well as providing some health insurance benefits, severance pay for players cut from the team and maternity leave at half pay if they become pregnant.

The men, meanwhile, operate on a pay-for-play system: Those players who are called in for matches are eligible for roster and game bonuses considerably higher than those paid to the women, but a player must be called into camp to receive anything. So when Tim Howard took a year off after the 2014 World Cup, he earned no pay from U.S. Soccer for the games he missed. Any player who is injured, or one who is on the fringes of the national team player pool and is not called in for months or years, receives nothing until he returns to camp. The security net is that every male player in the pool, unlike the women, has the advantage of falling back on a lucrative salary from his professional club.

So like good little socialists, when the women's team's socialist plan doesn't work as well as the men's team's merit-based plan, they want to complain and destroy the merit-based plan.

Because that's what socialists do.

There are plenty of fields where I believe gender equality is mandatory and women absolutely deserve every bit as much as their male counterparts. That said, sports isn't one of them.

We can certainly do more for the women (and often, we can certainly pay more). But there will never be gender equality in sports because the genders aren't equal in sports.

Comparing a full international women's tournament to a U-23 most countries don't give a shite about shows you have no idea what you are talking about.

Gooch started vs City this week. That's much better than playing in the Olympics vs some B or C squad youth team.

The women should get the share of revenue they bring in, roughly.

That being said, them crashing out of the Olympics is a stupid argument against their compensation negotiations (not sure why all the good capitalists have a problem with people trying to get paid more...). The men crashed out of the Gold Cup, and compensation was never discussed (other than for the manager, specifically not compensating him at all ;))

How so?

They were planning on having another victory tour like they did after the WC. Their victory tour was their main sticking point about the revenue they brought even though it was during a non typical year.

When our U23 doesn't get to use our best U23 players? Yes, it's ok.

The big screwup was in the marketing last year. The US federation should have helped the players land endorsement deals while the iron was hot. Alex Morgan could make a nice chunk of change from those deals. Carli Lloyd was the hero of the final and could have pulled in some nice deals.

Other big fail was Nike's refusal to make jerseys for male fans. The USWNT replica jerseys all have V necks which is not only inaccurate, but forces the fan to show off cleavage. Smart move would have been to print up a few thousand jerseys for the popular players and give them a cut of their own jersey sales.
