I bought it like a month ago. I don't think I've gone to hang out with friends more than twice in that time lmao

What's the learning curve on this. I probably have 1-2 hrs late at night two or three days a week I could play it. Is it complicated?

That's worthwhile - you can play as much or little as you want, but anticipate more time passing while you play it.
You can set up the actual games to play out real time or to only do various levels of highlights (goals only, etc.) I tend to do a decent amount of highlights so that I can get an idea of how the game is going and adjust tactics accordingly. Other teams will figure out your tactics if you just keep throwing the same thing out there all of the time.
Learning curve - it can take some tinkering to find tactics that work for your team, players, etc. You are basically running a club - transfers in, keeping players happy, contracts, press conferences, etc. Certain players are good in certain roles - even at the same position they may not be good at certain roles (i.e. poacher vs. Target man). You'll find you make mistakes in man management/promises or board requests, etc.
Almost got fired my first year at Liverpool, but finally got some tactics working well and have really taken off from there. Also figuring out transfers in and who will work well in the systems I'm running (though I still make mistakes).
Having even more fun with a lower league team (Lincoln) but its full of frustration as well - Twice now they've canceled my youth level increase 65% through its completion due to finances. Lots of players out of contract don't want to lower themselves to play for us, etc.

This is how civilization dies.

A couple of things. First, some people "get it", some don't. If you take the time to learn the game it is the most satisfying game you'll play. Second, if you "get it", your life is over. You'll go to bed waaaaay later than you said you would. You'll be thinking about the transfer that got away, changing your tactics for the next match, should I put a bid in on that Serbian Wonderkid that my scout found, etc
Good Luck

I might pull the trigger on this if my MacBook didn't sound like it was going to fly away every time I play.

it's a very fun game, although sometimes it's a bit too much for me. Like it's almost like you're at a real job lol. It's a lot of fun though, as far as text sims go it's obviously tGOAT by a wide margin.

I would watch some gameplay footage. For the limited time I have, I didn't feel I could play it properly, so I just got it refunded on steam.

This right here.
It took me probably a week to get to where I understood everything that was going on and put all of the duties back upon myself.
A common theme that happens is the, "just one more match" and next thing you know it will 4 a.m. when you have to be up at 8 or something.

Ugh, I bit the bullet.
I had to turn down some of the graphics to make my MacBook not sound like it was going into orbit, but I'm in it now.
I had so much fun with RBL on FIFA that I'm going to play with them on here.

Don't play MLS.
PLay with a big team at first to understand how to play.
Dont be afraid to go SIGames's forum and download a plug and play tactic

Oh, I've owned FM before... couple of years back.
We lifelong Leipzig fans have to stay true to our colors. It'll be a fun Bundesliga challenge.

This. I've been playing for a month and started out with Bayern Munich and I finished 4th in the Bundesliga lol. Then got fired 6 games into my second season. And I went through that cycle with Bayern, Man United and Atletico but eventually I've started getting the hang of it. I'm 5th in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen exactly half way through the season

Steam keeps track of playtime. For me 984 hrs or 41 days of my life gone.

I'm at like 540 myself. It's an incredibly addicting game
