Have the two best players ever delivered like this in a championship game?

Mbappé a hat trick. Messi two goals and a beautiful flick that created another. Both were cool as you like in the PK shootout.
I’m trying to think of anything across sports that compares.
This would be like Jordan somehow taking on Lebron in a gold medal game, and both putting up 50 point games. Crazy.

Now that Messi has won the World Cup, I'm looking forward to 2026. That is going to be completely unpredictable

Not sure about that France is going to be even better in 2026 more than likely. I can honestly see them making another final.

Closest thing I can think of recently that's anywhere close was last year's playoff game with Mahomes and Allen absolutely going off in the fourth quarter. Wasn't a championship game but it was amazing watching both step up in a do or die situation.

It’s hard to think of something quite like this, especially because it’s also so clearly a changing of the guard. Lakers Celtics finals had all time greats losing, but those were peer v peer greats. Likewise Federer/nadal/djoker games are relative peers in terms of age.
Lebron averaging a 30 point triple double losing to the Durant warriors, but the series wasn’t really close.
This really was a special event and outcome.

The game was amazing but the fact that three of the goals were pens makes it a little less so from an individual perspective. Mbappe's second was so sexy though.
