When will people realize that rooting for the USMNT is not the same as rooting for MLS teams? Hell, everybody roots for Americans in track and field and swimming and other niche sports every four years but nobody cares about those sports after the Olympics are over. MLB gets all of the best baseball players in the world. The NHL gets all of the best hockey players in the world. Until MLS starts getting the Messis and Ronaldos and Neymars to come over to play in the United States during their prime, it'll never be as big as any of the Big Four sports leagues.

Attendance figures should be considered when discussing the top sports leagues in the US. Although attendance is only a small factor it nevertheless should be mentioned.
2015 NFL average attendance: 67,604
2016 MLB average attendance: 30,084
2015 MLS average attendance: 21,574
2015-16 NBA average attendance: 17,826
2015-16 NHL average attendance: 17,455
Of course, NBA and NHL matches are conducted in arenas. My statement would be that MLS overall is still outside the "Big 4" but getting closer all the time.

You have to compare ticket prices, though. MLS tickets are going to be much cheaper, right?

I'm not sure but I would think that the answer would be a significant yes.

They are misleading in majority of cases. Leaves out way too many factors. How full are these stadiums, # of games, what day and what time is the game at, and how much are the tickets.

Yes, as I stated, it is only a small factor in the overall equation.

and the revenue numbers prove its not close.
Tv numbers are far behind, partly because the deals MLS has gotten are kind of crap.
That said, MLS attendance is per game just surpassed the nba, which is a promising statistic. It's also the fastest growing sport in the key demographic of men younger than 40.

America is also just figuring out how to have soccer on TV as it goes against the established model. The idea of no commercials for 45+ minutes requires shifting the entire paradigm of American sports broadcasting.

Are any of the other major sports a Ponzi scheme like MLS?
And yes I'm just regurgitating what I've heard about MLS.
Explain that. Never heard of the Ponzi scheme in regards to MLS. I'm actually starting to like MLS. Would go to a Sporting Kansas City game over a STL Blues game.

I think the cheapest sporting KC ticket thru their site is around $35. I can go to a Thunder, Blues, Pelicans, game for around $10-$15, some on stubhub for under $10. Chiefs cheapest ticket are about $35, can get them on stubhub for $15, sometimes under $10. Looked on Stubhub for Sporting KC tickets, none that cheap, they avg $35-$40 for the cheapest ticket.
Soccer is getting popular in this area.

It'd be tough for me to pass up going to any NHL game.

You should do some reading on MLB Advanced Media and get back to me.

Wait, he should go to the outlet owned by MLB for an objective view on the future of the league?

Perhaps someone needs to compare average % of attendance. MLB plays a lot of games and a lot in nearly empty stadiums.

I don't think most Americans could name 5 MLS teams.

Baseball is making hand over fist
Local tv contracts are going into the billions.
Baseball isn't dying, and isn't going away. It's a myth that people like to sell.
Stuart Holden with an opinion, lol.

He should better understand why baseball's revenues are incredible. The baseball is dying myth is almost as dumb as 9/11 truthers.
