I think we can get someone for under a million, and there are some good names on there. I am confused how New Zealand got 1.2 million though, and Javier Aguirre's agent is clearly the gold standard in soccer.
I'm willing to bet that the majority of the citizens in each of those countries care about soccer. US is unique in that it is probably the ONLY country in the entire world where the majority of citizens don't give a frick. If we were to pay even close to $1M then I would be ecstatic. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening.

Hearing a lot of uhhh's and ummmm's in Bobs news conference

New Zealand and Australia are probably two of the countries that are at a similar level of not giving a frick, probably. And their coaches are highly paid.

This sucks. I came back here hoping it didn't really happen.

I now have to say that, If anything, Bob is an overachiever when you consider his accomplishments relative to his place on that list. You and I both know that in sports, ESPECIALLY in soccer, you get what you pay for. There are exceptions (what England is paying Capello is just absurd), but money spent tends to be reliable indicator of a team's current well-being. What Bob is making, per that list we should be dropping occasional matches to countries like Paraguay, Ghana, and Panama.

Paraguay and Ghana are both legit soccer teams. Panama is nowhere near that level. The frustrating part of watching the US the past few years is that the team should be doing much better than they have been.
Ghana is good, but the only reason we lost is because Bob went with Ricardo Clark because he is a "defensive midfielder" (he isn't really, just a midfielder with no offense, this doesn't make him an excellent defender at all). Look at the two halves against Slovenia. In the first half, we were abysmal. In the second half, we were awesome, yet after the game, the strategy was completely dismissed. Why? I don't know. We weren't playing top teams like Spain or Germany afterward.
The roster is the most important thing to look at, and we actually have a pretty impressive group of players. Donovan, Dempsey, and Howard are world-class. He isn't an underachiever like Sampson, but he isn't doing anything special either.

Just pissed off a bunch of people by explaining the difference between Spanish and Mexican.

When took Spanish in high school it always sounded easier hearing it from someone from Spain or some of the South American countries.

The Coach of the US Men's National Team will take a special kind of person. I'm not sure there are a lot of candidates for the job. The head coach has to be the face of US soccer. In no other country is the National Teams coach the face of soccer. He will have a huge role to play in youth development, marketing, promotional tours, not to mention actually coaching. I don't know of many top tier coaches that would be willing to take on all those roles without being heavily compensated...
Bob's who we got and Bob's who we are going to have for the forseeable future.

Not saying this bc I'm a 'Bama fan. However, I agree. We need an Nick Saban-esque coach. Someone who will be a hardass and put discipline and a strong arse work ethic into US Soccer. I understand he can't have a hand in their club situation but frickING RUN THE MILL IN US SOCCER.

and the next question what kind of coach do we want? Do we want a guy with a lot of experience or take a chance with a young guy?

I don't think discipline is an issue at all. The team plays pretty clean, the players are well behaved (outside of Davies sneaking out before a qualifier and Beasley's DUIs in Europe), and the players show legitimate effort. Our guys are well-conditioned and our midfielders are skilled.
We need a creative mind who can maximize a solid, but not spectacular, roster. I think Arena and Bradley were the right kind of coaches for the US national team prior to 2004 or so, but we need managers with a better tactical approach.
The talent in the US soccer pool has risen in the past 8 years. Now our biggest weakness is speed coming out of the left back/right back positions and responding to counter-attacks. Other than that, I think we are pretty damn good.
Here is the man, he even looks like a cross between Bill Belichek and Ray Liotta

Our team lost tonight due to inexperienced and lack of discipline.
I understand that Bradley is under a lot of pressure and he doesn't have much a talent pool to work with. We are incredibly thin.
Agudelo and Tim Ream shouldn't be on this roster at all.

I don't think discipline was a big issue. The central defensive pairing was just awful. They looked lost and/or passive the whole game. They allowed for a big opening in the first 5 minutes, gave up the first goal, and had another couple of openings that better players could have capitalized on. The partnership is just off, and the coach deserves some of the blame.
The second goal was a horrendous mental mistake that I guess can be attributed to inexperience. Ream doesn't seem to be a dirty player at all, if anything he is the opposite, but he committed a terrible foul.
But I look at the central defenders that we have on the roster, and all we have are Ream, Goodsen, Onyewu, and Bocanegra. How did we get so thin all of a sudden?

Ream was trying to clear the ball and it was touched away. Not that stupid, more unlucky.

Which play are you talking about? The big mental error was him fouling a guy who was in the box, but in the least threatening position possible.
The first goal wasn't a huge error, but the first shot which led to Howard's save was based off a big opening on a set piece that should have been contained.

The Panamanian sold it for everything it was worth too. If He wasn't in the box he would have run right through the high follow through and knocked Tim Ream on his arse. The Panamanian fell outside of the box. I would have called it a foul outside of the box and given ream a card (from a completely unbiased point of view.
