throwing around that world-class line a little too freely there I'd say. Good players to very good in Howard, but not world-class.

I'm going to keep saying it. Our players are good (not great or anywhere near it) and when put on the US team which has no semblance of a style or strategy, their performances are always going to be inconsistent at best.

The players coming up have to be taught a new style (which I've said enough about) and this group needs a manager who can at least see through these next couple years. Bob is fricking neither of these things, nor do I really think he's even close.

I just saw a slow motion replay and it wasn't as bad as I thought, but that was still a very clumsy challenge by Ream.

I'd say Howard is a top 10 goalkeeper in the world, and Dempsey's success in the EPL has him right up there as one of the most productive attacking mids in the world. Now Donovan has a tendency to disappear in some games, so he is probably the biggest reach as a world-class player.

The problem with watching this national team is that we repeat the same mistakes over and over. We are susceptible to counter-attacks, we have poor backline communication in transition, we cross the ball in to the box too much, we start games off in a passive way (which paradoxically makes us susceptible to early goals), and we rely on passing it to Jozy and hoping he gets hacked (and the defender gets a yellow card). We have done this for over 2 years now, so it seems clear that Bob doesn't mind these problems all that much.

It was clumsy but he was just trying to clear the ball. I give him a pass, it could have happened to any centerback in the world. It was more bad luck than anything.

You have to have some awareness to where you are. He also swung very wildly. I mean shite he managed to kick the forwards thighs. With the forward in the position he was in, he should have jusst played it out of bounds cooly. It was a penalty any day of the week whether or not he sold it.

This game aside, our CBs and FBs have this horrible habit of making errant long passes that are intercepted at the midline. Those are the giveaways you get punished for. We do it every game, multiple times per game.

The problem is Bobbo, he is clueless I can't see any real strategy behind what he is doing and thinks the cookie cutter approach to Team and In-game management should work for all teams equally. He never seems to send a message to this team especially during the match. Embarrassing, I can't even begin to imagine how this result hurts us with the future Rossi's of the USMNT frick BOBBO

The roster is the most important thing to look at, and we actually have a pretty impressive group of players.

Yeah.... they aren't. One great player, two pretty good players, and a bunch of guys who play (in varying degrees) for mid-level (at best) clubs in Europe or starters in MLS.

2010 World Cup Squads

Look at teams like Serbia, Nigeria, Denmark, Slovakia, Ivory Coast, Switzerland.

The majority of their players our playing at a higher level than are players are.

I actually like the roster. a lot. what i dont like the style of play.

We all saw how creative, explosive and threatening we can be once we get in the right mode. The problem is it took us more than an hour to get there and it was out of desperation.

The intensity we had the last ~30 minutes was impressive. Once again, the consistent problem with USA is getting behind early and playing comeback ball. Now idk if thats a coaching issue, a lack of leadership on the field or simply we're just not as good (which i dont think is the problem).

Once their mind is in the right place this team can be competitive with anyone. A young back line needs work but I think its a fixable problem.

eta: just my take

So can someone give me a level-headed run down of the game. I was out last night and forced myself not to check Twitter incessantly. When I got back I saw we lost, so I just went to bed. Let me know what went down.

Our defense made a couple of clumsy plays in the first half. Panama's first goal looked like a Clarence Goodson own goal. Tim Ream tried to clear a ball out of the box and it was touched away and on his follow through he clipped the forward. They scored the pk. We looked lifeless for most of the first half, we kept sending stupid chipped balls into the box. Dempsey almost got a goal. Second half started off bad too, then we subbed our Agudelo and Jermaine Jones and brought on Kljestan and Bedoya and looked much better. Ale was great last night. Wondo missed a sitter from inside the 6. MB hit one just wide. We should have won the game even with the terrible first half.

Just got done watching. Here's my terse analysis as I'm on my phone:

Our CBs failed us on both goals. Poor communication, inability to hold a line, no defenders closing in on Panamanians making crosses. Bradley damn near nonexistent in tr first half.

Agudelo seemed to be the only high fwd but he lacks the ability to hold up and make the right pass. Jody dropped very deep to defend, Clint ineffective. Basically our passing lacked ingenuity and quickness.

Much better in the second half, but it was a little too late since Panamas defense was very efficient minus our concession goal which was thumped in by Goodson on a failed clearance.

Tl;dr - it took us 45 minutes to wake up and by then we made 2 damning mistakes we couldn't crawl out from. Our CB problem will haunt us throughout the tournament unless we start playing more than 1 DM

Basically Panama came out stronger, quicker, faster and better than us. Plain and simple. We survived the initial wave of attacks then a defending blunder led to their first goal.

Howard made a save and Goodson (I believe) tried to clear it and just...didnt. looked like an OG on him but they gave it to Tejada.

A stupid arse foul by Ream just inside the box gives Panama a PK and a 2-nil lead. Guy was leaving the box and he went for a clearance and whiffed.

We finally woke up in the second half and were moving the ball around beautifully. Goodson got a sweet little diving header goal but it was too little too late. We just woke up way too late

We found out that Ream and Agudelo aren't ready, Wondo isn't an international player and Jones is useless.

ETA: And Jay DeMerit should have been on the roster.

I'd be more willing to give Jones a shot if he was younger. I still want Ream and Agudelo getting at least some time if possible, even if it's off the bench.
