I should probably pay more attention to you enlightened souls who have such a keen intellect and superior appreciation for the finer things in life. I think I will go re-watch Victory and then go out in the back yard and try to Bend it Like Beckham. That clearly will make me a better person.
i don't like hockey, but i don't start complaining like a bitch when it comes on sportscenter.

NFL OTA's
I don't care about this and ESPN is trying to push this crap on me, convincing me I should care about this, instead of focusing on the things I care about...like the World Cup.
When Preseason starts, then I'll care about the NFL again. But hearing about which athlete got in trouble, or Big Ben Rapistberger returning to practice (important news for sure), or which untested rookie is holding out of weightroom workouts is of no interest to me.
But that is why I don't watch ESPN after the superbowl.

Well if you don't like it then clearly no one does or ever will. Your post is just as retarded no matter where you meant to post it.

I know, that's why I said I don't watch ESPN after the Superbowl. It doesn't bother me they show it, I just don't watch it.
Will be watching the WC though.

i'm sorry, i don't think they were actually tageting you. they are targeting the on the fence people. or the people who only watch the world cup. i mean i sit through tons of commercials for, say, nascar, and i realize they aren't targeting me to watch b/c i never will. it's for people who maybe watch the 500 or are casually interested in it when a big race is coming. i can assure you that they are not wasting money promoting this. it's espn, they are all about money and if it was a waste, they wouldn't be doing it.
i also never questioned your intellect. i do think it's kind of dumb to write a letter such as the one you wrote. a little egocentric if you will. but i don't think it makes you a dumb person. i didn't attack you. i was a bit sarcastic about congratulate you on your letter, but even though you originally posted this on the OT, do you think there are no soccer fans there? and honestly, if you can't sit through a few commercials now and then and maybe a short segment on espn...well, that's kind of silly imho. but and
Thanks for taking my posts in the way they were intended. Seriously, it's not a huge burden on me to see those pieces on soccer on Sportscenter. I don't care that people dig soccer, and I have no problem with its growing popularity in the U.S. I was mostly trying to be funny and make a lighthearted comment about ESPN's efforts to promote the WC. Nothing more. Notice I intentionally posted it on a board where people - while some or many may be fans - would not necessarily be as passionate about it as those on the World Cup Board. It got moved here and blew up. Seeing some of the sharp jabs that came my way from that orignial posting, I had fun jabbing back. Not once did I take anything seiously - though I suspect quite a few of you have no use for me, no matter what I say. That's quite alright as well. Hope you know no harm was intended and I have no hard feelings toward anyone - or even toward soccer.
But seriously. The fact that it got over here was unintentional. The back and forth has been nothing more than a silly way to pass a day. Y'all enjoy the board. I know I did.

I knew attending soccer matches in person generally resulted in death. I'm just now learning that discussing it on the internet can result in the same.

So you can throw out one number and thus my point is negligible? The point is illegal immigrants skew the ratings
I hate to bring this back up, but I just finished reading the thread so...
Please correct me if I am wrong, but the Nielsen ratings rate "American" homes. The "boxes" they put in peoples homes come with an acceptance form which requires you to fill out personal information about yourself and your household.
I dont think there are too many illegal immigrant homes that a)accept a Nielsen box in their home and b)fill the form out accurately describing their household as fourteen cousins of mexican descent between the ages of 18-35.
Also, Nielson ratings help establish how much a program can charge for ad time. Latinos, legal or illegal, are probably undervalued by the Nielson system because, while their numbers are large their disposable income isnt. Therefore, latino homes probably dont have a proportional amount of Nielsen boxes compared to white families.
In conclusion, illegal immigrants simply cannot be skewing tv ratings of soccer events because illegal households are not monitored.
