so there's no harm in giving him another 4-5 months to get situated at WB, and get some minutes in the Bundesliga.
And there's no harm in calling him up now.
Also, calling the Gold Cup "meaningful" is a stretch to me, but I can see how getting a chance to play in the Confederations Cup is important to some. But I'm no national team expert.

I guess, as long as you don't care about the national team having standards.

England brought Theo Walcott to a World Cup with only like 10 senior appearances under his belt. A meaningless friendly before a World Cup we're not in is perfectly fine for Sargent.

The only standard should be talent. Rewarding some other dude who might not be as good as Sargent — who is getting training in one of the best leagues in the world and produced ahead of his age at the youth national team level — in a youth-first team of call-ups just because he's "played with grown men" is ridiculous.
If there ever was a time to break from some sanctimonious standards of call-ups, it's right after you fail to qualify for the World Cup with a bunch of grown men.

Exactly.

Yup. And again it's not like he's taking the spot of some obvious choice that got shafted.
Also maybe we are actually doing our homework now and talking to the coaches of these players that see them in training everyday and are starting to trust them a little more. I would certainly welcome that

That sounds like what the GM will be doing (which we don't have yet).

Earnie Stew bout to come in and lead us to the promised land.

Not his fault. I think he deserved a call up for his work with the youth national teams. Success at the U20 level will often translate to success at a higher level. Plus he’s been dominant with the U19s at Werder. Again, IMO he’s earned it playing against serious competition. We have a thin pool up top. I see nothing wrong with bringing him into camp. Plus he scored on his debut and did not look the least bit out of place.
I agree. I can't believe some people are not happy with Sargent starting. Like you said, there aren't many good options from our more experienced players and Sargent has shown a lot of promise and potential. This friendly was the perfect time to try him out. I thought he played well for the most part, and it was nice to see someone work so hard up top. He pressured that keeper the whole game and forced that error which lead to his goal. I don't see any of our vets doing that.
I would love for him to keep developing and become another strong and young player on the USMNT, like Pulisic. I'm not sold on him yet, but watching him play does get me excited as to what the future may hold.

"I think I was more nervous here, because with PSG I’ve already played two games," Weah said. "It was my first start, but it’s also the end of the season, you’re kind of just relaxing. I wasn’t that nervous, but here, I was nervous on my debut, and I was nervous here because now I’ve got the chance and I’m on the stage to start the game and show the United States what I can really do. That was going through my mind at the moment even though it’s just a friendly. but I take pride in games like this and I just wanted to do well.
And this is why its a great idea to integrate the youth wave into some senior caps during worthless friendlies.
Lets get them used to the stage, get the butterflies out, before it all really matters.
