I wasn't able to watch this game today. I tried listening to it on SiriusXm, but the broadcast wasn't traditional radio commentary. It was just a broadcast of the commentary from the fox televised version.
So not only was I dealing with listening to Fox commentators. It also meant I didn't have a clue what was happening on the pitch. The broadcast mainly consisted commentator silence, background crowd noise, with intermittent shouts of players names with no commentating on what those players were doing, followed by mentioning that both teams playing were from the same city a million times.
I had to turn it off multiple times on my road trip. I'm not sure if I should blame siriusxm, the station, or fox.

NBC BPL/ESPN coverage >>> Fox UCL coverage.
and it ain't close. Gus Johnson/Wynalda are borderline unbearable. Luckily it was an incredible game to overcame those 2 disasters.

look, gus may get names wrong every now and then, but damn was that the perfect match for him. his exclamations have gotten much more in sync with the flow of the game. the pronunciations are really the only sticking point for me. such an easy thing to practice and get right though, you'd think.
wynalda is still an abomination. his bit about possession being worthless and it being all about aggression was pretty hilarious when real wore down a spent atletico because of their possession

I had my volume way down, and I'm still having a hard time getting MAHDRIC out of my head
Most analysts spew platitudes, so I'm not really worried about Eric Wynalda

Are you kidding? He still calls Atletico AtHletico and literally the only thing he knows how to do is say the player's name really, really loud when they get near the box.

I did enjoy Wynalda's assertion that they knew Costa could only go 10 but started him anyway just so he could be out there.....in the UCL final....when you only have 3 subs and have the potential to go 120 and PKs.

That is awful. Sounds like something that turtle Murdoch would do to save the $20/hour it takes to hire someone to ramble about the game

I've always found that criticism hollow considering that's Martin Tyler (and others) too.
we all love Ray Hudson and he's just a screaming, sycophant thesaurus.
I'm not saying gus deserves the job FOX has given him, but other than pronunciations, I don't have a problem with how he calls games now.
wynalda is shitty. put Gus beside a decent commentator and I bet the questions he would "come up with" aka feed him, would be better.

Yes, but he actually knows what he's talking about.
Legitimately shocked that there were two people on this board who like Gus enough to downvote that comment.

Gus is horrid. Wynalda needs to stick to the studio also. What blows even more is Fox is getting WC after this year. One can only hope it won't be these two clowns in the booth

I don't like him at all, but that's probably completely true. Why else would he be sprinting off after 10 minutes? It seems like some dumb motivational tactic from Simeone, who wasn't expecting 120 minutes.
As for the World Cup pairings for Russia, who knows? Gus has had about 10 different pairings for CL games this year.

I think we are overlooking the fact that Gus Johnson, the man hired by Fox to be the voice of the CL final, didn't know how to pronounce the name of one of the teams in said final. What is this, 1995?

My mom thought it was Real Madrid and Alternate Madrid.
She only saw the "REA" and "ATL" though.

That's amazing
I've heard of people using Fake Madrid as an intramural team name before.
