*sigh* this is tiresome.
It's fine to hate Gregg, but the mental gymnastics some are going through on this board right now to place all/most of the blame on him is next level.

There are no mental hoops to jump through. She said she thought the conversation was in confidence to a friend. Gregg says he was allegedly blackmailed. There’s a huge difference between the two. Has any information been produced to prove that any threats were made? That’s how blackmail works you know. Unless proof of the threats can be produced, I am more inclined to believe Danielle’s account.

Who just happened to be the GM of the USMNT.
Stop.

She said she didn’t bring it up to hurt Gregg. She said she was comparing the two’s mistakes when they were the same age
Holy hell. Stevie Wonder could see this is bullshite. She knew what she was doing. In modern society, she knew this would lead to him losing his job, and if she didn't, then she is retarded.

EMERGENCY POD. Rog on the breaking news that it was U.S. Soccer Legend Claudio Reyna who brought to light a three-decade old domestic assault incident involving USMNT Manager Gregg Berhalter.

I mean, if we're talking about believability, this reason is so ridiculously outlandish. You honestly think she just so happened to casually mention an intensely private situation that has never been made public before, about her closest friends, just to make a comparison.
If so, she is the most callous, inconsiderate, and reckless person alive.

This is some golly gee, Mayberry bullshite if I've ever seen it.
"She was just relating some before times stuff with a dear old friend, how could she possibly know what impact that might have."
FOH with that nonsense.

Eh, she was venting and upset. People say plenty of things when they are upset. Her son’s private matter was aired to the media, and she felt betrayed by Gregg considering she and her husband gave him the courtesies of privacy and redemption in a far more serious private matter at a similar age and Gregg never reciprocated. That’s a far cry from blackmailing an organization, which is a very serious accusation. US Soccer can’t just drop that bomb and not produce such evidence.
As for Gregg, if you want me to feel bad for a guy who admitted to hitting his wife 30 years ago, my sympathy can only go so far

Good luck being accepted in the locker room Gio. This is youth league bullshite.

I don't want you to feel bad for him. I don't feel bad for him. frick Gregg.
But lol at thinking Gio's mom just innocently mentioned something like that. She knew exactly what she was doing, she's as Karen as they come.

Let me see if I have this straight: Gio Reyna, a 20 year old man, was unhappy with his playing time so he went crying to mommy and daddy. That's strike one; adults don't handle problems like that. Instead of encouraging him to work harder and have a better attitude, his shitbag parents decided to hint at blackmailing the coach, who is Claudio's best friend and was the best man at his wedding.
Sounds like you are a coach.
The inference is the current coach is always right in all decisions.

Literally everyone is saying Gio should've played more. Even so, pouting like a bitch and causing other players to try and fight you during practice is not the way to go about earning more minutes.

I'm not a coach. I'm saying it is pathetic for an adult to go whining to mommy and daddy about playing time and even more pathetic for mommy and daddy to respond how they did.
Threatening your best man's livelihood (and again, to be clear, if she didn't know that's where this would go, then she is an absolutely braindead moron) because mommy and daddy's little snowflake isn't getting enough playing time is some low rent, trashy shite.

They all sound insufferable, which is pretty on brand for US Soccer leadership. I just expect more from a professional coach than I do from an ex pro overly emotional mother.

He wasn't a coach when he was 18 years old and kicking people

I’m not talking about that, I’m talking about how he has handled everything since this drama first unfolded

Long after the World Cup is over and Gregg is still tearing USMNT fans apart!

I want to come back to this bc I think it’s really important. We’re talking about a powerful organization with people who know each other REALLY well. They are friends and know a lot about one another. It’s hard to know when to switch hats from friend to professional, especially when you someone is talking to you in confidence.
It even isn't just that within the federation. It feels like everyone's connected from shite like this or some early MLS link. The reports that came out a couple years ago about all the nepotism and hardcore good ole boy network within.
It all just stinks and needs to be overhauled. It isn't good for any organization or structure.
