The perception is that if you are not signing a player that will see the pitch then you are taking a step back. I can only say that we are putting a lot of stock in Ox, Keita, Shaq contributing a ton along with the kids Brewster and Wilson or Kent. I figure Klopp knows what he is doing.

The problem with going after De Ligt or Koulibaly is you're basically telling a young, homegrown player (Gomez) who looked great before some dickhead broke his leg to piss off on the bench

Our starting lineup is...interesting...

Hoever-Gomez-Lovren-Larouci
Shaqiri-Lallana-Keita
Salah-Firmino-Wilson

Can't wait to see Lallana boss from the 6...

I wouldn’t call Gomez a “homegrown player”. He was 18 when we bought him. He’s also been injured more often than not. We were miles better than everyone but city last season. The rest of our rivals have made steps towards progressing though while we’ve sat idle instead of maintaining the gap. It’s just a risky strategy when we have several players we’re relying on for depth that are consistently injured

We were paper think at CM and CB for a couple of stretches last season.

I think another CM is met by Ox, but at the same time, he has a pretty lengthy injury history.

For CB, we have Hoever and this other youngster who can both play there some, though I would hate to have to rely upon either.

I think if the rotations are handled well, a front three of Salah, Mane and Brewster, or Mane, Firmino and Shaq, etc. can work as long as 2/3 of the stars are in. The trouble comes in if one of the main three gets hurt and then to rest another one we have a front three that is a lot less threatening. Ideally I would have liked someone of starting quality he could play all three up there. They would still get subbed on every game, and probably end up starting about 30 a year too across the positions. Maybe this guy from Fullham or wherever is good enough to really put some shifts in.

LB and RB - we have options - but they all have questions marks. Young LB back-ups (some meant to be CBs), Gomez can play there in a pinch (if he's healthy, etc.).

We have a relatively young squad that competes at the top and they could/should all improve, plus a few guys coming back from injury. I completely understand not buying 3-4 guys. But 1-2 would have been perfect, in addition to the youngsters we're bringing in.

Okay it's a stretch, fine... point is still the same. Also, not holding his injury last year against him as always injured because of some frick head

If y’all haven’t seen the Harry Wilson strike from today, head over to twitter. He consistently hits the ball harder than anyone else we have. Dude has a howitzer for a left foot.

I was a twat at 16 ( some likely still consider me a twat), and that was without social media and camera phones. I'll forgive the kid his teenage transgression this time, but he needs to learn from it and buckle down.

He looks to be pretty damn talented for his age, and I hope we keep both he and Wilson around for the season.

But at least he's not a mong!

My own personal observations, from my own teenage years to this day, is that 99% of 16 year old boys are twats.

Liverpool cut down to 24-man training squad (LINK)

quote:

Sepp van den Berg, Ki-Jana Hoever, Yasser Larouci, Adam Lewis and Bobby Duncan all featured in that clash, but have now all returned home as Klopp streamlines his group.

So, since we've sent home the only three youngsters that play FB on the squad (Hoever, Larouci, Lewis), we're either gonna go with Milly and Gomez as backups to Robbo and TAA or we intend to buy a/some backup/s.

I believe the former is more likely than the latter.

We may be just fine roster-wise, but having made ZERO first team additions in this off-season still gives me concern.

Chelsea tried it a few years ago after winning the league and got their shite pushed in the following year. I know it isn’t apples to apples, but it doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence when we stood still while our rivals got better. Again, we were way ahead of most of them, but we’ve failed to maintain the gap and allowed them to close it. My only hope is that we’re hoarding funds for a huge 2020 summer window

Finally finished the 2nd half of the Lyon game. Not sure what Elliot did after the game, but I’d have to imagine we’re pretty high on him...kid has some real talent. Hope we keep him around.

I agree.

But, damn, would love a Bruno Fernandes in the MF or a Junior Firpo in the backline.

I am leaning with bb and Riseup. I know we are loaded but after Europe I thought we would seize on that momentum and bring in at least 2 players that might have pushed a starter.

Andrea Dossena seems to think had Klopp came calling Dybala would’ve happily signed

quote:

Manchester United are a football superpower, but for me, they are not ready to win big in Europe, as perhaps Juve could be," Dossena told Tuttomercatoweb.

"If the team in question had been Liverpool or Manchester City, in my opinion, he [Dybala] would have had no doubts. United is more of a construction site at the moment."
