I'm glad that coaches have stopped trying to force Kroos into the CAM spot. He's so much better as a playmaker. Today was one of his better outings. He just needs to not be an emo.

Great coup by Bayern. He will be a legend there, if injuries respect him.

Yeah, we were without Schweinsteiger and Ribery. I'd also love to eventually have Badstuber back since Jerome can be insane.

While Bayern is the better team at full strength, I think Arsenal at full strength would be a tough out.

Arsenal has to address the DM spot IMO. I know a lot of people want Arsene to buy a striker but I think DM is much more of a need. You need someone who can do the dirty work for Özil.

My fear is that Arsene's going to continue to use the double pivot so he can jam Wilshere and Ramsey into the same side. It's not that they can't coexist, but each lack positional discipline with each other. Wilshere is decent defensively, but again he's just undisciplined, while Ramsey is an absolute workhorse who makes up for his indiscipline with constant running. At this point the 4-2-3-1 is the only thing that accommodates Ozil and one of Wilshere/Ramsey. So either we need an absolute Makelele level destroyer, or a mobile B2B who can free Ozil from any defensive responsibility.

He was pinging passes out to the right with such efficiency that I was amazed Wenger didn't adjust. That was a Pirlo-esque performance. And his goal was fantastic. Christ what a player.

I thought Luiz Gustavo was the perfect buy for Arsenal over the summer.

He didn't want to compete for playing time. Can't do anything about that.

I'm hoping beyond all hope that we can get one of the Bender brothers in the summer. That seems like a pipe dream, but damn that would be amazing.

Who thinks AC Milán can overcome their deficit?

I think they can but seriously doubt they will.

I watched this--really entertaining, by the way--match and Milan played pretty well.

It went back and forth in the sense of 10-15 minute periods that either team would really take the upper hand.

However, I would say that Milan actually created the much better chances--as evidenced by the three times they hit the post (twice on fantastic saves from Courtois).

Atletico probably won the midfield battle for longer portions but had a nightmare of a time dealing with Balotelli until Costa took care of that with his challenge.

In the end though, Milan did exactly what they've done against Serie A bottom feeders all season, which is why they're in 10th place: find a way to lose.

This time on that simple clearance which Abate mis-headed backwards to the back post for Costa's finish.

I think Milan will play a decent enough match in Madrid but, like their league form all season, they'll not do enough to actually pull through.

I think they looked really good, played much better than the talent inherent in them.

Seedorf seems to have them kind of energized.

Well, mentally anyway, as physically, they seemed out of gas there at the end.

Seedorf certainly has them playing with more zest however conceding cheap goals like tonight continues to be a huge issue for them.

Milan has pretty good talent though certainly a real step down from the few elite clubs.

Atletico Madrid doesn't really strike me as being necessarily stocked all over the pitch either.

However, their manager is certainly elite and that they play fantastic team football is more a joy to watch than a all-star roster.

I also have the crazy opinion that actually calling fouls when the player doesn't ham it up but actually tries to play through contact may help curb diving a little bit.

That would be great but it isn't reality. When refs call fouls for every soft contact it only encourages the diving, flopping, hamming, going down softly etc.. more because they always think they will get the call.

If the refs would stop calling fouls everytime some tool went flying to the ground trying to bail himself out that's when they would stop doing it.

they don't strike the same fear that Jupp Hotcake's teams did with that suffocating pressure and straight to the jugular attack off of it.

Look who their manager is.

How did Essien look for Milan? What role do they have him playing?

I don't like to see every bit of incidental contact called but I also don't like when a referee lets the match turn into a rugby scrum either.

Kroos will look great in a United kit next season. I know that.

Essien played very well.

He and De Jong anchored the midfield in a 4-2-3-1 with Essien being the one of those two most often drifting forward to help attack, make runs into the box.

Essien started in place of Montolivo who was serving a suspension for a red card in the last group stage match.

Seedorf's first choice midfield has usually been Montolivo as a deep lying playmaker with either De Jong or Essien rotating in beside him.

Good to hear, I wish he was still at Chelsea but glad he went to a team I like and is getting a chance to play some.

Hopeful he can earn a place with Ghana in Brazil.

Moyes is the best choice to teach him the art of the boot it and run.

Did he fall out of favor? He's one of Ghana's best players despite his injuries.

God when he was in top form he was amazing. One of my favorite players.

God I would be so upset if he went to Man U. I think he has the chance to turn into one of the best DLP's of this generation. He's a player who you build a team around. Although I'm obsessed with playmakers like him. Moyes would turn him into a B2B midfielder where his talents wouldn't be used properly.
