Per The Athletic (you need a subscription to read the article). looks like the extension is through the end of the year.

So they're hoping to get someone after they get sacked early in the season.

It's through the end of the year, but doesn't prevent them hiring a new guy before then. We already have 4 games schedules in the next few months and we're adding 2 more. Just making sure that when September rolls around, we at least have someone in charge

Yes, but this is going to depress turnout quite a bit.

As opposed to what? Earnie doesn't start until August and we have games in early September.

Bringing in a new manager right after the World Cup to build up goodwill and excitement.

Who's going to hire him? They've been saying since Earnie was hired that there's no timetable and he's going to take his time.

Yeah this is fine. It's basically just extending his interim clause until Earnie gets on board on August 1st and hires his man. Nothing wrong with this

Are there any solid rumors as to who we maybe specifically eyeing and/or our approach with the hiring process (leaning internationally vs. domestic)?

Sarachan’s extension gives U.S. Soccer time to execute its search for a permanent replacement as it looks to move forward following the disaster of missing out on the 2018 World Cup in Russia. While Sarachan’s extension runs through the end of the year, a source with knowledge of the coaching search said it will not prevent U.S. Soccer from making a permanent hire in the ensuing months.
