Weirdest experience in my life... secretly hoping my team loses.

RIVALS: United States and Mexico
EVENT: 2014 World Cup Qualifiers, North American (or CONCACAF) region.
SITUATION: Six teams play each other home and away, the top 3 qualify automatically, 1 team goes into a inter continental playoff and 2 teams stay home.
SCENARIO: On the last day, the United States play Panama in Panama City, with qualification already sealed. The US doesn't even have seeding to play for as they are already ensured the top of the table. Arch Rival Mexico, have had a brutal campaign and face the reality of missing out on a world cup for the first time in decades, a prospect that could set them back years.
Panama needs only a win vs the USA and a Mexican loss to Costa Rica.... which is being played in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Mexico would indeed lose to Costa Rica and have to wait for the US-Panama result to know their fate.
Panama even scored an early goal and took a half time lead.
So American fans were faced with the odd, rare scenario of nothing to play for, and everything to lose for their rival.
And of course, the US Soccer team delivered one of their most soul sucking defeats to Panama, and Mexico survived.
Here is the story. And it starts with a heart breaking shot of Panama fans seeing the glimmer of hope of a first ever World Cup berth for their tiny little nation.

Nah, I was in the airport recently to pick up a family member and ran into a guy form Panama
He noticed my US Soccer jersey and said.
"you broke our hearts, and then kicked our corpse"
I laughed back
"Hey, I was hoping we'd play all the young guys and experiment with the positions."
Had a beer, great conversation.

maybe they should worry about winning the matches first, then us later
when in comes to concacaf, we don't owe anyone a damn thing
