Surely that's not the best use of that money and DP spot, right?

We've been had... Alexi retweeted a fake Jeff Carlisle account, didn't even notice the twitter handle.

I guess. If it's real....?

Yes and No.

I mean, he's better than Javi at that spot and he can play wing. He brings a ton of marketing and excitement, while his leadership is good for a team with a ton of young talent. Apparently RSL is chasing a late 20's winger and an early 20s Dutch Midfielder as well, which could help.

There's also a rumor that we're bringing him to integrate into the training academ post-player career.

RSL is spinning up a huge Academy south of Salt Lake that will serve Arizona/Utah: LINK

The youth soccer push is huge around here, and I believe Landy has some coaching aspirations:

quote:

RSL officials estimate the facility will be home to about 50 full-time staffers as well as a 250-student charter school with a science, technology, engineering and math emphasis. About 40 of those students will be members of the youth academy.

quote:

Hansen, meanwhile, has plans to build regional training facilities in Utah and Arizona, where youth players, ages 7-14, would learn an "RSL-designed curriculum" with the hopes of developing talent to feed into the Herriman academy and eventually promoting the best to the Major League Soccer club.

Sounds like a good model.

I tentatively like the move. We signed Mike Petke as the Monarchs coach, which was huge. I don't think RSL will greatly improve unless Cassar does, or Cassar is gone. Petke can act as a backup if things go south. Donovan represents a "Go deep in the playoffs now" approach, and that's really all that can save Cassar.
