Has to pay somewhere upwards of $20-mil

ETA: FWIW, Messi got hit with the same thing a few years back.

So it's Evra on the set, with Fiore and Lalas?

I was wondering who was the dude in the fishermans hat, with that gangsta lean in the chair that night.

I knew it wasn't Shaka Hislop, or was it?

Messi is a poor penalty taker.

He’s missed something like 25% of his penalties in his career.

Someone like Aguero needs to be stepping up in that situation and take it, but as usual Argentina slip into pass the ball to Messi and stand around. For such a talented team it’s disappointing and kind of pathetic.

Shaka is employed by ESPN last time I checked.

IMO, there is a difference in how Iceland play compared to Iran.

Iceland know they can't go toe-to-toe with hardly any of their opponents, so they play a smart style that works for them. They stay disciplined and press aggressively when appropriate. They actually throw significant numbers forward when they think they have a good chance to score, and it often pays off. They might only generate 4-5 chances, but if they score 1 or 2, they have a chance in any game.

Compare that to Iran yesterday. They basically put 10-11 men behind the ball and hope for a big mistake, only pushing a few numbers up on set pieces. Just awful to watch. They got lucky with the own goal. It's not gonna work against Spain or Portugal.

I'll watch Iceland over Iran any day.

Diego noooooooo

Maradona not so cool now. Some South Korea fans just shouted “Diego” and he obliged with a smile, kiss and wave. Then pulled his eyes to the side in a clearly racist gesture. All of us who saw it are stunned.

How many people are pulling for Iran and defending their tactics compared to Iceland? And there's a difference between great defense and putting nine men in the box and having 22% possession for the game. Iceland had something like one shot in the last 60 minutes of the game. That's shittastic football.

I think the group Asia said it best, when reading this post:

Dude, you really should start a blog and write about matches.
I'd read your articles all day.

It's kind of hilarious to watch a few hundred million dollars worth of talent try to find Messi 50 yards from goal and stand around while he attempts to force his way into the area via 1-2s

To be fair it's pretty relative.
Iran played Morroco, Iceland played Argentina (ranked 5th in the world)

Argentina has no game plan. They just give it to Messi and expect him to do the rest. Portugal have a decently well rounded squad that incorporates Ronaldo into a coherent strategy far better than what Argentina is doing with Messi.
