Tell it to make it a 16:9 ratio for the overall display.... (I'm sure it's making the smaller ones that ratio and that's what's messing it up...)

PROGRESS!!

HA is fully integrated with reolink and i can pick a weather station hardware setup on amazon that is best integrated into HA. good thing is i dont have anything yet so i cna make my choice based on best option for HA.

that knocks out 3 of the 6. that could in theory live in a HA dashboard on half of the display.

now i gotta figure out the other half and the best way to 'divide' the display.

Built this dashboard in HA. Very bare, can be cleaned up with better looking cards, but I did this in like 5 minutes

Bottom left tile cycles between my sports teams and pushes live updates/stats

This dashboard can be changed from any device, so you would only have to update the Youtube video ID when he starts each stream. You can also use the swipe card for news related stuff instead of sports

I am not a coder, but I've gotten good at utilizing Claude Code.

Trying to gather good ideas of what I want to accomplish with HA.

I have an existing touchscreen panel that is installed (new build) want to figure out how to override it to put things I actually want to use since I'm not using it's security functions.

I did a single pane dashboard. That'll play best with a single display IMO. Don't want to have to scroll up and down for stuff. HACs is also your friend for custom tiles and cards

I'll pull this thing off the wall and check

ETA: no hdmi port. From quick research these devices maybe pretty locked down.

I just plugged it in at the panel and waiting for the backup batter to charge to see what all this device does.

i'm starting to think this browser thing may be the way to go.

looks like rasp pi is underpowered for video; you can pikc up a mini-pc on amazon for $300 or so that will more than handle security videos, yt, etc.

i saw this; that might be the final piece; this gets around YOUTUBE not wanting to go full-screen when in 'kiosk mode'.

quote:

Custom Full-Screen Card (HACS)

For a more integrated feel, you can use the community-developed fullscreen-card available via HACS (Home Assistant Community Store).

Function: This card adds a dedicated button to your dashboard that can force the entire browser or specific elements into full-screen mode.
Benefit: It is often more reliable than the native YouTube button when using wall-mounted tablets or dedicated kiosk displays.

is that not a mini/micro-hdmi input right above the white power cable in your pic?

"That specific port is labeled J25 and is actually a Micro-USB port. That port is strictly for factory diagnostics. Not wired to the display's video driver for an input signal"

per Gemini

Ok finally got this puppy on. Gonna enable the connector so I can link it to HA. Gosh this stuff is fun to tinker with haha

Confused why you would want to do this... You can feed the youtube stream directly into the HA dashboard

Here's my dashboard yaml. Don't know how to copy and paste it cleanly into a post

I DO want the YT stream embedded in the dashboard but want a button to tap to make it toggle fullscreen when the game is on.

The YT fullscreen option doesn't work when the browser is in kiosk mode according to chatgpt so this fixes that

Why do you need the browser to be in kiosk? Set Chrome to open in full screen to your HA dashboard URL, then you can maximize youtube to fuil screen like normal via the dashboard

Well because I don't know what I don't know

Thanks for helping me avoid that. I assumed kiosk mode and full screen were the same thing.

I never use it so haven't played with it much.

Tell me about point and click remotes. Could I use a remote that acts like an air mouse to select things? Maybe I don't need a touchscreen at all. A 32" Samsung frameless monitor is like $150 on Amazon so maybe a nearby remote/ keyboard would work as opposed to $700 for a touchscreen that large.

I used to have those Logitech Smart remotes that I loved once upon a time. Can't remember what the were called but you could create macros.

Eta trying to think of ways to get those YT video IDs/codes into that control easily.

I’m dumb so I tie my actions/automations to virtual buttons/switches (called helpers in home assistant)

That actually may be the right way to do it but I don’t know. With helpers you can do anything.

I need to quit bugging y'all and do some work on this so I can ask intelligent questions

I still have PTSD from my wink and hubitat days so I'll probably start with a shot of whisky before I start creating HA dashboards.

Eta most HA dashboard examples I've seen are horrible. People are trying to put 7,000 things on them. I want this to be relaxing and not look like a 747 cockpit.
