I like it. I have the original Surface Pro and it is great.
I like mine and it definitely has its niche, but definitely doesn't replace my laptop.
I bought the original Surface Pro the day it came out and it's been awesome. Runs just as well as the first day I got it. I used it to replace my laptop and haven't had the need for a laptop since then, it's done great.

Not sure why this is superior to a MacBook Air unless your business wants/needs a Windows-only device.
The better question is when will a PC maker build a laptop as nice and thin/light as the Air? I haven't used a Surface keyboard so I can't pass judgment on it but from looks alone I'm a bit skeptical.

Because literally NONE of the software at my company will run on Linux
Over time it would be a lot cheaper to migrate to linux than to worry about purchasing software for windows AND worrying about product licenses.
Wanna know how I know you are either still a student or an entry-level IT support engineer with absolutely zero experience budgeting IT expenditures for a large IT shop?

I have the original Surface(work tool)... my kick stand is on the carry case... need to get a keyboard. I hate typing on the touch screen for various reasons.
Don't know if this will kill the laptop or it that will just happen on its own anyways
Still like my Apple stuff personally though

If the laptop didn't kill the desktop, then why would the tablet kill the laptop? There will always be people that just prefer the other product.
I still haven't purchased a tablet because between my phone and my laptop, there's really no need for one.

The Pro 3 is lighter than a Macbook Air and can be held like an iPad, yet it's running a full version of Windows and comes with a full tactile keyboard.

The hard part, then, is convincing people the Surface is a viable alternative to the Macbook Air, which costs only a few hundred bucks more. On specs alone, the Surface stands its ground. But for all the work Microsoft has put into making the device functional for work purposes, it still feels, on first attempt, like a poor substitute for a real laptop with a real keyboard. The weight distribution of a tablet simply does not lend itself to use on one's lap, even with a nifty kickstand that allows you to prop it up at pretty much any angle you choose. The need to routinely switch between keyboard and touch controls does not help.
And then, of course, there’s the albatross of Windows 8, an operating system that remains widely unloved more than a year and a half after its debut.
It’s hard to know how much of this is my unfamiliarity and how much is Microsoft's poor design, but this article took me significantly longer to write on the Surface than it would on either my Macbook or my old Windows XP desktop machine. That’s partly because Word crashed and had to restart for no apparent reason, and partly because simple tasks like copying a URL from Internet Explorer and pasting it as a hyperlink in Word took multiple rounds of trial and error.

Why not? I'm curious since we have an employee requesting one as his laptop he's approved to get.

Could just be personal preference but also would not run some of the applications I need like Citrix, or extended outlook apps, and is a good bit slower than laptop. But again, a lot of it could be personal preference.

The Surface will absolutely run Citrix. The Metro version requires Citrix Storefront but you can definitely install the Citrix Receiver for Windows. I have it on mine.

I bought an RT shortly after launch, not one of my best days.

And it's way more expensive than what you can get a laptop for with comparable specs.
Price point for most people will be the only thing keeping a tablet from killing laptops at this point.

The surface pro is a nice device.
