its in the laundry room closet and its 'land locked'. the back wall has an exterior stone wall on the other side; the left wall has 1st floor bathroom with a cabinet on it on the other side; and the right wall is the garage which has shelving on the other side. the ceiling is under the second floor.

none of those are optimal for punching a hole and the laundry room gets hot in the summer when we're doing laundry and we leave the door closed most of the time since the dogs' beds are here and i need to keep them from bugging me; only one small floor register at the opposite end. i end up leaving the doors cracked to the closet which the wife hates so looking for something a little more elegant to help keep it cool.

and re: the poweredge; i like the idea of a dedicated NAS because no telling how much longer that thing will last so i'd rather not lose both my plex server and nas at the same time.

You're just going to be dumping that hot air back into the room at a higher pace with a "new rack"

Drive failure is far more common that server hardware failure, and it takes like 5 minutes to spin up a new plex server But no telling how old that poweredge could be though. I had an R530 running in my 100F+ storage room during the south Louisiana summer without a hitch. Went through 2 summers with it before moving to my smaller/power friendly rack I posted earlier

i know, it sucks. we have a damn 4,000sf house but its 1970s architecture and there's literally NOWHERE ELSE i could have put the server.
