Have y'all been to Crested Butte? I am going to make the drive out and ride there this weekend. Wondering where a good watering hole is and somewhere I can park my truck to sleep in

I haven't. I skipped a day at Crested Butte to stay another day in Wolf Creek last season. So worth it.

I slept in my car outside Wolf Creek for two nights and my play was to find a residential neighborhood that had street parking. Parked her and just blended in with the other cars. Got up early and headed to the resort.

Haven't been but planning to go in February for a few days(I have the RMSP+ this season). Let us know how it is, it's been a bucket list place for me.

bamafan425-I did a few days last December in Wolf Creek and we got 3 feet in two days and it was amazing. Sure there are some flat spots but low crowds and cheap lift tix and when it snows it pukes makes it an ideal powder spot. I stayed at foothills lodge in South fork at $67 a night and it had everything you would need to do a budget friendly trip.

Ski'd a 17" two day storm there last March and never shared a single lift with anyone while I was there. Ski'd first chair to almost closing bell each day. It was amazing. I love the place. Hiked knife ridge a few times and caught the snow cat out to horseshoe bowl for some mind blowing powder laps. I definitely wanna go back to there.

Flat in spots but if you figure out the terrain you can make your runs worth it.

Physically in Birmingham but mentally on a snow covered mountain, haha.

I normally do 3 trips a season out west so a season pass works out well. Had epic pass the past few years but with a 7 year old who loves skiing, the RMSP+ came with a free kids pass so I made the switch. Plus I've always want to go to Steamboat(will be there Saturday) and Crested Butte(going in February for a few days and then spend a couple at Copper on the way back to DIA). Probably doing our spring break at Winter Park as well so I'm pumped to try out all new places this year.

Still a little sad not to be riding Beaver Creek this year and no 3pm cookies, haha.

Go to The Eldo. Good bar upstairs with a stage and floor in the back. I've been a few of times and seen some good bands (classic rock, bluegrass, folk rock, etc.)

I have the RMSP+ as well again this year. Hopefully get to make a trip down there again. Maybe President's Day weekend to leave the I-70 holiday shiteshow behind. I'll just see how the forecast is looking that week.

Noice. Vail sold a crazy amount of epic passes this year. Somewhere around 650k. I made the switch after a couple seasons on the epic and am glad I did to mix it up and have Eldora 30 minutes away from the crib. Looking forward to getting to know copper and winter park much better

I have an awesome spot at Copper in the trees I'll text ya about. Copper Pocket. Just this wide open pocket in the middle of these dense trees. Perfect lunch and smoke spot.

Have you ever stumbled across any of the smoke shacks there at copper or steamboat? My buddy took me to one but I would never be able to find it again. I hear they have a few at every resort a little off the beaten path

I know of a few around Summit county. Keystone there is one pretty accessible. As well as Breck, which I've seen a few. My friend went to a lot in Copper. But I have only seen one or two there but never remembered where they were.

I'd guess you could say I'm a real ski bum. Well educated ski bum at least. Hopefully I'll be year round at the golf course next winter, and then I'll be really set to ski all winter. Right now, ski shop grind is fine by me. I embrace the bum life.

Snow was super great. Opened new terrain and it was pow town everywhere. Groomers had about a 4 inch layer of powder and off-piste was nice and deep everywhere. Was with my roommate who's new this year so didn't get to rip around and explore as much as I would have liked but I'll be back at it tomorrow bright and early.

I've already ran into the same group of old guys who always make first chair at gondola everywhere. Powder is an addiction. Old guys who ski every day are the proof.

Looks like we are in for a powder day on Saturday.

Headed to Vail Saturday, then maybe a few runs in Keystone on my way back to Denver Sunday.

Saturday should be a deep one it sounds like. I have to work the morning shift so gonna miss the freshness at the Boat but I'll be there in the afternoon for leftovers.

Looks like some surprise accumulation today down in Summit. Breck reported a foot....not sure I believe them.

For those interested: NON-STOP from MSY to Denver for $169 in mid January.
Oh if I weren't already spending to much money in Feb
I'd take a damn shuttle from Denver to Copper for $65 and stay in the cheapest hotel I can find. It's the price of skiing that tells me "no, you idiot."

edit: Jan 14th through 18th roundtrip - $169

Copper reported 11", ABasin 9". Breck's official stake is over at the base of 6 chair, which catches some good wind load too. I'm sure there's areas on the hill with a little less, and areas with more than that. It helps to know where the good spots are that catch wind load.

Similar to whatever Vail officially reports (by Mid-Vail on the front side), everyone knows it's deeper on the backside, sometimes nearly double if the winds were W to NW.
