Both statements can be accurate - anything before Christmas can be lagniappe and we can be at the lowest snowpack and snow-water-equivalent in recorded history (at least here in the PNW).

The pacific needs to calm down. Also having the AO go negative will help getting more troughs in

Man I feel for the people making Christmas ski trips. It's usually not a good idea anyway but this year will be especially bad. I'm going up today just because I won't have another chance for the next 3 weeks and I don't want to wait that long but it'll definitely be a short day

It's -8*F feels like -16*F currently here in Alaska. I think the highest temp has been 2*F feels like -6F while skiing. There may be some snow here, but after about an hr to an hr and a half me and a buddy had to call it each of the last 3 days. Ready for 80 degree temps tomorrow!

I'll say I'm glad I went today. The terrain wasn't as bad as I expected given the recent conditions. Had a nice short and easy first day with 10k vertical feet

Were you at basin? I’ve been out there quite a bit in the last few weeks with training and family time. Today was one of the better days lately. Getting an inch the last few nights has really changed the snow. It was an ice block last week.

Canada has been a blast....Sunshine and Louise have gotten 3 feet of snow the week I've been here. Skied a few areas in Louise that have never had good enough coverage to be worth it on previous trips. Had a bit of a bluebird day at Sunshine on Friday as well, and then the snow came back.

Best day was at a Kicking Horse, I snuck up there for one day and caught the rope drop for Feuz Bowl and the powder was bottomless....

Easily my best trip to Banff, wish I had another week up here.

Had my first real day of riding yesterday at snowbird. Ended up with 25k vert. Good to be out there, but I'm really hoping more terrain gets opened up soon. Looks to be a solid week of snow starting tomorrow in the Wasatch.

It was a phenomenal week of heli skiing up in Alberta. Definitely a great way to start the season with consistent snow.

Just finished a trip at Deer Valley. Horrible conditions. Ice, slush etc. I think they had 40 out of 200 runs available. Was raining in Park City rather than snowing.

This was also my first time back in about 7 years. Prices to ski have absolutely skyrocketed. Lift tickets for adults were $390/day. Kids ski school is $600/day. Considering Europe next year.

You did pick the most expensive resort in the country

When were you here? Park City got a good amount of snow after new year’s. Might have been raining at the base today though.

Exactly. $800 for the season for the local Epic pass and $900 for Ikon.

Definitely the way to go for anyone planning ay least two trips but at at least day passes over lift tickets

Been seeing this all over socials. Conditions in CO and UT have been pretty dismal to start the season.

I'm headed to Breck in late Feb/early March. Hoping things get better by then.

People are obsessed with posting how bad it is but when you dig deeper it's just a big thirst trap.

"Look at the conditions iof my non refundable ski trip." blah blah blah

Sheep being sheep, regurgitating the same BS and jumping on a popular social media trend. It's cooler to shite on something that be grateful for what's there and have a good time regardless.

PC has 55 /349 trails open and more opening every day. Places around town got rain last night but mid mountain and up all got snow. Over 30" of snow the last 10 days and another 12" coming in the next 5-10.

Is it where it was a year ago, NO.
Is is dramatically better than it was a week ago, WITHOUT QUESTION.

Short term forecast looks for even more improvement with a 10 day forecast allowing for plenty of snow making and plenty of snow this week.

What happes after MLK day is still up oin the air but it looks as if the w
