My son is working at Deer Valley this season. Very little snow and none in the forecast for the next couple of weeks

Man, it's a sad day when the last post on the Ski Thread prior to this was 5 days ago. It will snow more in Florida this week than in Park City.

Yup, that's why I haven't visited the thread in a bit. Not much to talk about unless you're on the East Coast

17/92 trails open at my local mountain. We got 8 inches one day over a very shallow base and of course I scratched the shite out of my skis going off trail. Nothing a little P-Tex and a tune couldn't fix, I guess.

Have just been lapping groomers all season, so silver lining is that at least my carving is improving. Maybe I'll hit the park next!

The storm tomorrow is coming in better on the models, at least. Hoping we can get a good 8" off of it.

The idea of you going to Colorado to warm up makes me laugh. Even in these depressing times.

Only place where I could cool down is probably Siberia at this point. Had several years of weak winters, now we are paying for it.

It was spinning at open. Heads up if you go… it’s icy. Was hoping it would be better since no ones really been on it, but no dice.

For the experts and folks out west on here, where would you go in continental U.S. in mid-to-late Feb if you were starting to plan a trip?

Live in Houston so accessibility is the key as we have little ones at home we won’t bring and don’t want the in-laws to have to deal with them for more than 4-5 nights.

I’ve been just about everywhere but I’m more thinking of what mountains are faring better this year. Browsing my favorites On The Snow app looks brutal.

Big Sky, Jackson and Targhee are likely doing the best right now since they all built a solid base of snow and are still near average.

Just got back from a week at Wolf Creek (4 ski days) - it was 100% open, although getting a little bare and icy in the more traveled areas. They got about 6 inches new right after we left, and they could use more, but overall it was good enough for us as solid blue skiers. It’s also much cheaper than the big Epic/Ikon resorts; only problem is having to stay 20 to 30 minutes away and negotiating Wolf Creek Pass.

The beach, I wouldn't waste money on these conditions.

We went to Big Sky when we were bringing our littles for the first time.
Depending on how old they are....
They have a daycare on the mountain. Literally right next to the lift.

Ski school is great, too.
For the adults, the mountain is amazing for intermediate and advanced skiers as well.

Now, there isn't much else to do there as for as night life as it is a ski mountain and not a resort.

Fly into Bozeman and make the drive. Very easy.
$269 from IAH and 6 hours total flight, 1 stop in dfw.

Where is the snow?
None in the forecast for the next week either?

How is it that dallas and Shreveport have almost a foot, and the Rockies have none for 3 weeks?

High pressure system keeping out the moisture. Higher temps this week but LOOKS like there MIGHT be a break around Feb 10 or so then a good system or two moving through mid February.

Glad I stuck with this trip, powder day at Vail yesterday and now another at Steamboat. Trees were skiing very well considering the amount of snow.

Alot of time and specifics will vary but it's consistent with most models I have seen that things are looking promising for Mardi Gras skiers in the Rockies
