Any recommendations on areas to stay at that are farther out from the downtown area that could possibly have availability for race weekend? Struggling to find hotel/airbnb within 20 min of downtown that isn't under $500 night or in a rundown area

Its tough to find anything decent for that weekend that isn't 30 minutes from downtown and an hour from the track.

Last year the guy in charge off booking it for us found an awesome place for pretty cheap, turns out he booked it for 2022 instead of 2021 and we didn't find out until the day of when we tried to unlock the door. We ended up in a 1 bedroom apartment in the ghetto with 6 guys. Its a good story to give him shite about though.

I'm sure Buda is booked but worth a try. You could also stay in Wimberley which is 45 minutes from the track and a nice town to visit . San Marcos is another option.

Stayed at a Ramada south of Downtown for 2018 race. Was closer to track, remodeled and many race fans.

ETA: It was the Ramada by Wyndham right by 71. It was a good fit in 2018 but I see some recent bad reviews. Guess thats why I was downvoted?

It's crazy how much this event has blown up, the hotel we booked 2 blocks from 6th Street for 2021 was $190/night, for this year it was $320/night, then once tickets went on sale it went up to $550/night and is currently booked up.

My suggestion, book something as close to where you want to be asap, as it gets closer it'll just get more expensive and more booked up.

Also, if you plan to go out to dinner anywhere I suggest making reservations right away as well. We waited until about a month out and most of the places/time slots we wanted were all taken.

That's true all year in Austin these days.

It’s been like this for years. All the desirable restaurants have been requiring reservations for years now.

More the period of time before the date of the reservation vs needing a reservation.

Trying within a month of a dinner date will get you laughed at.
