We live in KC area and looking to maybe go to Colorado this summer. Any suggestions on resorts or VRBOS to look into? Open to going to any part of the state. Have a 10 yr old that will be tagging along so hiking, and other activities to keep her entertained is helpful.

We did Colorado in July, and it was a great trip.

Visited Royal Gorge, Colorado Springs, Mesa Verde, Gunnison, and ended it in Durango for their 4th of July fireworks. 4th of July Fireworks in Durango was one of the highlights of the trip. We took the Durango/Silverton train up through the mountains. The whole town brings blankets to sit on in a field outside of town while the fireworks are shot from higher up the mountain.

If you take the train to Silverton, reserve a Jeep before you arrive. There are trails all around that town that lead up to abandoned mines, etc.

You can't go wrong anywhere really.

Telluride and Crested Butte are incredible, a little tougher to access, but worth it.

Durango is amazing as well.

If you go Denver and front range, drive to the top of Mt. Evans. Idaho Springs is a great little town.

As long as you're in the mountains, you'll have a great time. Take a raft trip, do hot springs, its pretty endless.

My personal favorite is the BV/Salida area. but with a 10 year old consider Estes and maybe Breckenridge. Estes is right near RMNP, an absolute gem. Breck and Estes will be a little touristy but plenty of stuff for a 10 year old to be entertained. My girls loved Estes and RMNP at that age.

You honestly can't go wrong with any mountain town. Book a raft trip(early summer should be better), a horseback ride, and a fly fishing trip(if y'all are into that). Places like Estes and Breck have zip lines, adventure parks and lots of activities that are kid friendly. Lots of great hiking with all the national forests. Once you pick a town to stay, you can narrow your search for hikes and activities.
