I'll be there with family Dec 30-Jan 2 staying in a lodge. Haven't been in probably 8 years and am looking forward to it.

We did Blue Ridge, GA last Christmas.
Alot quieter, less tourists... plenty to do in that area, and nice cities to visit near by.
Would def look into that as an option.... unless yall are trying to do all the over the top tourist stuff

Never did it with teens but have done it often. Obviously, a lot will be depending on what they are into. Dollywood has good rides and haven't found it to ever be really busy in the Christmas - NY time, Anakeesta is good for a day, a lot of trails/waterfall hiking options that you can tailor to your skill level, the dinner shows are entertaining. Also check out Ober Galtlinburg for idea (ice skating, skiing, snowboard, etc.,)
