We took our kids (9, 7, 4, and 21 months) to Iceland, Italy, and Ireland this summer. The only rough parts were the airports after late flights and Rome. The kids did great in southern Italy, Iceland, and Ireland. We rented cars and did a fair amount of driving, but our kids are pretty used to that. We had flights on Icelandair (very good) and Ryanair (not great). Icelandair lets you do an extended layover on your way to Europe which was nice.
