Brown’s Town Jamaica is as close to Mogadishu as I’ve ever seen. We hopped in a taxi to go to Bob Marley’s tomb. Our fricking driver got lost and is literally asking directions from people walking around. Jamaicans have three languages: English, Patios, and car horn. That MFer blew his car horn one million times if he blew it once. The ‘roads’ were awful and the entire ride was like a life and death amusement park ride.

We had our teenagers with us. It was an eye opening experience for them. Poverty was next level. Haiti was far, far worse.

I’ll never go to Jamaica or Haiti again for any reason. I’d legit consider Somalia, Sudan, or some other African hellhole over those two.

Jamaica is beautiful, but it is rough AF. Stay on resort or go on an excursion organized by the resort.

Yes. I've been to Jamaica 16 times and been to or through all 14 parishes. I've never stayed at a resort. I was in Treasure Beach for three weeks in February. Just like you wouldn't go wandering around certain neighborhoods in Los Angeles, Chicago, New Orleans, etc the same is true for Jamaica. The fact that someone would be frightened to get a car from the resort in MoBay to the Mega Mart to get beer is completely absurd. Any honest driver or guard will tell you that the majority of violence is drugs and gangs and family feuds in areas that tourists never go. Look at the DOS travel advisory page and don't be a moron and you'll be fine.

No don’t
No reason to leave

Our favorite resort, have been multiple times

Edit to add
Do club mobay - worth it on arrival, not as much on departure
Once you make drive to resort from airport you won’t want to leave
Do excellence club, worth it at this resort
Beach houses are nice but outdoor tub was cold, not heated
Ocean view room was better
Still haven’t stayed in a rooftop terrace room, always sold out

The resort has a private feel unlike other AIs

How’s the entertainment, etc?

Don’t really wanna be at a “dead” resort…

Restaurants?

There's 8000 reviews on trip advisor with a 4.6 average rating...several have already said its a great resort. Food is great. Entertainment is good too. Its not dead, but if you're looking to party until 3 AM, this probably is not your place baw. This is the AI that I compare others to.

We did the same the other poster said about the cruise ship stop. Shitshow. We lasted about an hour off the ship and went back. They might as well drop you off on plank road or the 9th ward. Super sketch.

Not at all…: if I’m out after midnight, probably not a good thing.

What’s the benefit of Club Mobay on arriva? I figured we would try to leave the airport to the resort ASAP.

Absolutely not. The island is ready for a revolution.

Right, it's the other way around. Get it for departure only. For $35 you get expedited security screening and then all the booze and food you want in the lounge.
