I posted something last year but figured I would see if anyone has any new recommendations.

Every year I get together with a couple of guys and their families that I became good friends with back in my Air Force days. Obviously all us guys got to be good friends but our wives and kids all clicked and got real close too so we make it a point to get together at least once a year.

I live in SWLA, 2 guys are stationed outside of Atlanta, and the other is up in West Virginia so we try to find something that is somewhat a midpoint. We also need a big house. 4 couples so 8 adults plus 11 children all 6 years old and under

So does anyone have some good recommendations around the same area give or take a couple hour drive in any direction? TIA

Last year we rented a big house in Mentone, AL right next to Desoto State Park and had a blast. One day we went walking in the woods behind the house for a couple hours and found an incredible swimming hole.

Could rent a house near Sylacauga. You've got Selwood Farms and Pursell Farms within 20 minutes for clay shooting and golf.

That swimming hole looks mighty nice though.

If you're looking for something cheap, the Helen and/or Elijay areas in GA are not bad.

Blue Ridge or somewhere else in Northern Georgia. Plenty hiking, lakes, fishing, etc... outdoors.

Sipsey Wilderness in NW Alabama is very underrated. It can get hot and dry in the summer, but it is fantastic in the spring.

Nantahala Outdoor Center would be worth checking out as well. I believe people have already mentioned the other areas in North Georgia I would recommend.

Look around Brevard NC. Tons of hiking and biking options. Town has some good dining options.

Blue Ridge GA is another option offering similar opportunities. Near Ocoee rafting as a plus.

LINK

This place is independently owned and directly on Weiss Lake. It has a water park for kids. You can camp or rent a house.

Thanks for all the replies. I have looked a lot in the Blue Ridge area since it was a popular recommendation last year. I've found a couple of cabins in that area to give us some options.

Do you have a link to the cabin you rented? How deep in the woods is the swimming hole?

I'm heading to Mentone for a long weekend on Thursday. Is there anything else you'd recommend? I rented a cabin that is walking distance from Desoto falls. Have reservations at Elevation Bistro as well. I know we will hike at Desoto State Park and also want to go see the swimming hole at Little River Canyon.
