We checked in yesterday. Here for 3 nights with an RSA rate. My wife used to work for the school systems and still has her retirement there. So that’s a perk we use.
The main lobby looks nice. It isn’t the old school feel but it still looks appropriate. The fireplace is still there. The coffee shop is where the old gift shop was. It is open with tables out to sit at. We’re in the marina building, building 5. We have stayed at this building pre renovation and now renovated. Rooms are nice. We’re in a room on the third floor overlooking the pool. It feels like a place you’d stay in a big city but you have the nice outdoor part of the grand still here.
They’re still renovating. The main dining in the main building is closed. Bucky’s is open and is about the only option now for dining. The poolside bar is open but encased in a plastic tent for renovations. You can still order food out there and even go inside to eat but you won’t be open to the pool. That is supposed to be complete soon.
If anyone has any questions then post them and I’ll go check that area out and post an answer.
The bad thing about the main building is if you are on the ground floor or back side of it there is no balcony. We requested marina because all sides have balcony.
Spa building is supposedly renovated too but I haven’t been over there yet. Rain is in the forecast so when that happens I’ll take mine to the indoor pool and check it out.
The only negative so far is I walked to the main building to get complimentary coffee and the guy told me that they cancelled that because every room has a keurig now.

The indoor pool is basically for exercise swimming. Not much to see there

Never understood the appeal of this place, but I've only been twice for weddings. Last one was 10 or so years ago.

Compared to the crappy resort style options in La, Ms, and Al, it’s a pretty legit place. Beats the hell out of going to a casino that’s for damn sure. Priced high enough to keep the trash away as well.

With a 2 month old in tow this trip the indoor pool came in handy once. My wife took the older kids down to swim and I’m chilling in the room with a beer and the baby is napping.

It's a good regional resort to "unwind". It's not meant to be a week-long location, nor is it meant to be a mega-resort like the Greenbrier or Callaway Gardens. It's a place for people within a few hours drive to spend 2-3 nights and relax.

Did they mention how long til the restaurants will be ready?

Also, I thought I saw personal cabanas by the pool or someone on the property. Does this exist? TIA

Do they still tack a service charge onto the final bill of 20+% ?

Any updates if the hotel is done with renovations????
I tried checking trip advisor and it has no reviews currently.

Was there over labor day. Stayed in the main building this time (usually stay in the spa building) and it was absolutely fantastic. The room was really nice and it is a serious upgrade over what the main building rooms used to be. The spa building renovations, on the other hand, are awful. We stay in a suite when we are in that building, and the new suits are shite. The design is awful.
The restaurant renovations make the place look nice, but they have some kinks to work out with new staff. We heard some people complaining about slow service, but we had a group of six adults and six kids under 5, so they probably went fast with us to get us out of there.
All of the activities are still awesome and the renovations to the adult pool area are nice.
I was worried that a total renovation would steal the place of its charm, but it didn't. If you are considering it, do it.

I was there during Labor Day also, and I would definitely recommend it especially with Kids.
Plenty to do and keeps the kids entertained. Pool area is great for kids, and the bar is nearby with waiter service at pool!

Seems a little pricey to me... I never see rates under about $350/night.

Went there in July, most of outside was done. They were almost done with the restaurant as well. I would imagine it done by now with the renovations we had a fantastic time great place

Just checked in. Renovations fully completed. Nice day to be on the bay.

A day like today will make you think about moving to a place like this.

Hence the reason I never left

Really can’t blame you. Also, stopped by the brewery for an amber and to try the scotch ale. I’d never been. Will be back. Bartender was great. Maybe an owner?
