Alexandria la baby. Get there 5 mins before your flight.

Memphis is great as far as getting in. You can literally park and be at your gate in less than 10 minutes. Having a place to eat or have a beer is terrible though. I love it though bc hometown airport.

Friend,
San Francisco's SFO is probably the nicest airport in America. Whether or not it is underrated, I will leave that to you to decide, as I do not know how most people order the hierarchy of American airports. SFO is clean, airy, smells nice, has friendly and well dressed staff members, and runs well.
Its has a world class tram intra-airport tram system that moves quickly, but does not jerk you around after what seems like an endless unfun ride at Dallas's savage airport. I have more than once sprained my bad ankle in Dallas. SFO's system, however, runs as smoothly as Disney's.
SFO's rental car system is also as efficient as any large airport's I have visited. Its garage is also clean, supple, and takes less than five minutes to move from rental car agency to your terminal. This system is in contrast to Seattle-Tac's rental system, which is the worst I have ever experienced. One may expect, in current times, to wait an hour for transport on its flimsy busses. Seattle-Tac, however, has some excellent dining options.
Which brings us to SFO's one negative feature: its terminal system. SFO joins several other airports in prohibiting movement from terminal to terminal after security. In order to enjoy the offerings of another terminal, one must go through security. If one moves to a different terminal, he must repeat the security line. This inconvenience is most upsetting, as it means your dining options will be reduced.
Having said that, SFO has three amenities I cannot more highly recommend. First, superb moving walkways placed in appropriate areas, unlike Atlanta's grab bag. Second, its transport areas for the tram to the city center or for ride share programs are close to gates, well maintained, and easy to find. This stands in sharp contrast to the abhorrent system found in O'Hare. Such is to be expected for such a disgusting city. Finally, SFO has the nation's best airport bathrooms. Twelve foot ceilings, marble walls, and upper echelon fixtures make the one relieving himself feel as if he were in a palace. Toilets are cleaned frequently, making Bucee's bathrooms look filthy in comparison. Water faucets and soap dispensers are motion detected. However, unlike MSY's paltry water system, which expels water for only five seconds after motion, SFO's faucets offer a waterfall of warmth for 15 seconds for each motion. Its soap dispensers give sufficient soap in two pumps to wash like a surgeon, all the way to the elbow. I highly recommend on your next visit to SFO to make at least a few visits to the bathrooms. You will not leave disappointed.

PDX
I really liked the Amarillo airport for being a smaller one.

SLC
Salt Lake City and Birmingham are my two favorites. I haven't been through Salt Lake in a year or so. I'd like to see how the renovations went. I especially like their light rail into the center of the city. Very nice after a long flight to simply hop on the train and get dropped off right in front of your hotel.

*whispers* I always kinda liked midway

Agreed, I like DTW. Right now only problem would be the tram isn't running so if you have A1 to A61 it's a hike.
Detroit is nice, but those terminals are looooooong if you have a connection on opposite ends, or have to switch terminals. I've been in a sprint a couple of times there.
Phoenix is the nicest airport I've visited, but I don't think it's underrated because it seems widely hailed. Birmingham is my home airport and it is extremely easy to get in and out of.

El Paso airport is a sleeper.
very easy to maneuver and low key/low stress
Probably the least stressful airport I visit. F&D options aren’t amazing though, especially behind security.

Detroit is nice and easy to get in and out. But I bet it sucks if your connecting is on the other end of the mile long terminal.

Salt Lake City
i travel to SLC quite a bit for work, great airport. easy to hop on the TRAX and get into downtown or onto campus. anytime i have a tight connection i make it. easy flight from PHX where i live.
and PHX is much nicer since they shuttered the old terminal 2, and renovated all of terminal 3. those used to be pretty crummy. also like the food options, mostly local places instead of chains that showcase our local chef talent. also conveniently located right in the middle of the city.
my vote goes to the new MSY. have only flown in and out once, but i found it really nice. it actually felt smaller than the old MSY (maybe because of the layout?) but loved how new and clean it was.
honorable mention BOI just for ease of access. the airport itself feels like you are in a 1980s shopping mall, complete with video games from the 80s. and it is a tiny airport. but it is SO easy to get in and out of, rental car pickup and drop-off is a breeze, and you have super quick access to interstate 84.

For me, this one is easy: Jackson, Wyoming.
First, the views. You walk off the plane, and the Tetons are immediately in view:
Second, the airport itself is brand new and beautiful, and is designed to show off the views:
Third, while you are waiting for your luggage, why don't you enjoy a complementary mimosa (or five):
Fourth, when you leave, you can hangout by the fire pit:
In between, of course, get reamed by the $80 uber ride to Teton Village, and whatever other exorbitant charges you incur throughout your trip. But yeah, never hopped off of a plane and just stood there.

Beautiful airport and surroundings. Just a lot of turbulence when you’re landing there.

San Diego is great. Lots of drinking options, good food, quick bus ride to rental car. Right by the city

Agreed that the Minneapolis airport is nice.
One that caught me off guard was the Greenville, SC airport. It's a smaller airport but nice and new.
Also, I've heard complaints about it, but I have nothing but good things to say about the new New Orleans airport, it's one of the nicest airports I've flown in/out of.
