Daily, pretty good flight times. Obviously geared more towards Oregonians coming to NOLA rather than the other way around, but still its an interesting addition.

I'll probably use it to go Willamette Valley

Nice! Good skiing in Mt. hood, several hour drive to Bend but great town there as well right on the river

Alaska is a great airline too. I think they have a nonstop to Sea-Tac from MSY as well

I'm a fan, it's been terrible finding short(er) routes out there with connections.

Really no good way from MSY to get to that part of country - infrequent nonstops to Seattle, SLC, SFO, and Denver but that's it.

Since Covid, they've gone downhill badly.

But I suppose every airline has.

This is good news, but the article sure sounds like it's only for a limited time this spring.

quote:

?DALLAS – Alaska Airlines (AS), the largest carrier in Portland (PDX) for over 20 years, has announced a new seasonal route to New Orleans (MSY). Passengers can book the daily nonstop flight between PDX and MSY, starting from June 19.

The carrier plans to operate this route until next Spring, so travelers can enjoy Mardi Gras, the largest celebration in New Orleans annually. AS will operate its Boeing 737 family aircraft on this route, which is its 55th route, starting from January 6, 2025, till May 14, 2025.

Daily flights from PDX depart at 9:05 local time and arrive at MSY at 15:30. The flight time on the outbound leg is 4 hours and 25 minutes. From MSY, the return flight departs at 16.35, arriving in Portland at 19:50.

It's definitely a Mardi Gras/French Quarter Fest/Jazz Fest route for visitors since those are our best weather months of the year and the worst weather months up there (although late April/early May isn't too bad for them).

That said I know several people from Louisiana who live in the PNW who will love this route.

Please... I love a quick centralized layover at KSLC when heading out west. Nothing difficult about it.

I laughed when I read the Advocate article that popped up on my Facebook. I'm not going to Link the article because it's the advocate, but this is what it said:

quote:

The daily flight will depart from Portland International Airport (PDX) in the morning, so guests can spend an afternoon in New Orleans, then return to Portland at night.

Departure time from Portland will be 9:05 a.m., and guests will arrive in New Orleans at 3:30 p.m. The flight from New Orleans will depart at 4:35 p.m., then land in Portland at 7:50 p.m.

You couldn't leave the airport, set foot in the actual city of New Orleans City, make it back to the airport, and get through security before your flight left... Except maybe on a Sunday not in football season.
