What year was your Thru-hike? Did you keep entries on trailjournals or something like that? One of the outdoors board posters completed his back in like 2015 or so. he kept a very detailed journal which was really enjoyable to read.

I am going to start a YT i think. I will post some pics here when I can.

No trail name yet, we will see.
I suggest "Tanden Lives!".

Mine is going to be 32 with food and water, it will be a struggle, but I fell that by week two it will be fine

I day hike the goergia sections with my toddler, water, food, diapers, and hammocks for my family of four. About 60lbs. When I overnight with my UL gear it’s like walking on air

I have a question: What’s so appealing about the AT? If I had six months to hike around I would not spend a single minute of it east of a line between the Badlands and Big Bend.

The at is gorgeous. But yeah there are more majestic areas in long hikes around the country. The pct and cdt. They are all milestones for people. The AT is more accessible and I would say easier to a degree as far as ability to resupply and take breaks along the route. I’d say that’s why it’s so appealing to many for their first very long hike.

It doesn’t have the beauty or vastness of the western mountains but is very scenic. Especially the smokies and northern New England.

The big appeal to me in the hikes I’ve done on the AT is the trail community. All the towns the trail go through are fun and the hikers you meet are fun to be around. The other trails have that also but the AT has more.

Logistically the AT is easier but the hiking is tougher from my experiences.

I have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway, been to the summit of Mt. Mitchell, and some other places in that area. I'm not saying the area around the AT isn't scenic, but man, we're talking about devoting six months of your life to it. That's a large price when you consider what else you could do with that much time.

But to each his own. I hope the member (can't remember his username) who is leaving soon enjoys his trip.
