We just booked a trip for June to SLC, any can’t miss or avoid places? It’s looking like a rental car may be necessary to get around.
So far a tour of Olympic park is all that’s on the list.

* In town we went to the City Creek center, the Temple area, and the Capital grounds
* Did the Park City area, including Olympic park, outlet shopping, spent time at both Canyons Village, and Park City resort area
* Also went to the Great Salt Lake observation area
* Drove out to Promontory Point to take in a bit of history
* Had a day to kill, and a rental, so we left early one morning to see the Twin Falls, ID area. Its a bit of a drive, but we were really bored. Shoshone Falls was the best thing was saw on our entire trip. Walked on the Snake Canyon rim trail, saw the twin falls from both sides, viewed the Evil Knievel jump site, chilled out at Dierkes Lake, ate at a Culvers

Really appreciate the info. I’ll try to digest it and maybe come back with questions.

Any fishing outfitter recommendations?

As far as rental car or no, it depends on where you will be going. The bus and the train there is very good, but not Chicago good. We did a week there without a car, but preferred the rental on later trips.
Go to a Bees baseball game if they are playing.
Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake observation point, the Square.
Park City for a tourist trip.
Snowbird for a tram ride up the mountain. Advise to dress warm and wear some shoes to hike your way down.
There are hundreds of hikes that can be made around Salt Lake.
Must stop places to eat:
Log Haven. It's fine dining and priced accordingly. I wouldn't go to SLC and not go here.
Penny Anne's Cafe. It's a breakfast place. Expect a wait. Get the pancakes.
Red Iguana. The line will be down the block at all times. They have 14 different mole sauces I think.
Your Pie Underground. Make sure this is the location across from the school. Typical college town pizza place.
Ruth's Diner. Breakfast or lunch place located way up one of the canyons.
Salt Lake has a good many breweries downtown. Fischer Brewing was our favorite.
SLC is the cleanest city I've ever been to. The people are friendly. You'll be amazed at the streets on how wide they are and how traffic is minimal. Hell, the views from downtown are stellar. We are also going in late June for a couple of days before driving up to Jackson Hole.

Love this idea, kids have never been to the mountains so we're pretty excited about getting them there to see it all.

The first time we went I asked my wife after a day or so if she noticed anything. She said there are no brown people.
Snowbird offers all kinds of outdoor summer activities. The tram up the mountain give some excellent views and there are some easy hikes once you are up there. The hike back down the mountain might be challenging for little kids or out of shape adults.
I'm currently looking for someone to take us fishing down the Jordan River that runs through SLC. It looks to be fun.
How long are yall there for?

I’m loving all of the feedback and really appreciate all the efforts of y’all. We’re there for 6 days early June.
I’m hoping that I can get my wife and kids in a spa one day so I can sneak away for some fishing.

I really like Cubbies, it’s a fast casual restaurant chain in SLC that serves burgers.
It’s seriously good. I take detours to eat there.

Since you’ll be there for six days, you could visit one of the “Mighty Five” National Parks in Southern Utah - Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches. They’re all individually amazing and around 3:30-4:30 hours drive from SLC. Either stay a night at one of them or make it a long day wake up early and drive down. Bryce is a smaller park and can be easily viewed in a day. Incredible views, cool hoodoos, very family friendly, and 3:30-4 hours from SLC. Zion is a beast that needs dedicated time. Canyonlands is a great park as well with Arches nearby.
Restaurants/bars:
Log Haven - I’ll second this. Cool log cabin restaurant tucked in a mountain valley and National Forest.
Red Iguana - staple restuarant. Tacos Don Ramon were so greasy and delicious.
Templin Family Brewing & Fisher Brewing
Silver Star Cafe in Park City
High West: visit at either High West Distillery or the High West Saloon in PC
Liberty Park - really nice park with tons of activities right in town. Paved and wood chip running loop. Aviary museum for the kids. Pond and fields for hanging out.
Mountain biking or hiking at one of the ski resorts.
Alpine Slide or Coaster - I think Park City and Snowbird have one
Spiral Jetty - cool art formation on Salt Lake. My wife recently visited with a friend and enjoyed it until they got stuck in a sand storm with 50mph winds

Man, I really appreciate the effort you put into this. I’m going to look into the parks. Thank you very much!

We had a great trip, it was hot as hell but it's a dry heat and much more tolerable than this Southwest Louisiana humidity. Stayed in the Grand America hotel in SLC, here's the view from our room.
On the first day we drove up to Park City and had a tour of the 2002 winter games location. Stopped at a small dog park just to take in the view. It was our kids first time seeing mountains so there was lots of oohs and aahs. View from the park to the ski jump.
Looking down from the top of the same jump.
We attended Sunday Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
The next day we drove out to the great salt lake marina and silver sands beach. The smell was something else. I grew up very near the seafood industry in Rockport, TX in and out of shipyards and fish houses. This was far from those smells.
That evening we went up to the capital area to watch the sunset.
One of the hightlights of the trip was eating at Log Haven
The view from our table.
Our waiter suggested a drive up Cottonwood Canyon so we took him up on it on our last day there.
