we were in Sedona from THU to TUE this past weekend for a little R&R and some physical and mental healing. I won’t bore you with the reason we went, I’ll just say if that appeals to you, this is the place. I am so glad we went and I feel better than I have in years.

anyway…the travel, food, drink, lodging etc

Sedona is 2hrs north of PHX, we flew there and rented a Jeep. It was dark when we landed so the drive up wasn’t much to look at (that would change on the drive back). We ate at in and out right outside of town because it was so late, 7/10.

We stayed three nites in an Airbnb in west Sedona , and then two nites on a luxury resort type place closer to the rocks. “Uptown” Sedona is to the east a mile or so and it is a shitshow, at least it was over the weekend. Traffic and touristas is all I saw over there so we stuck to the west, which is great. Sedona is drop dead gorgeous and the people were as kind and cool and friendly as can be.

On Friday we were busy during the day. For dinner we went to Pisa Lisa which was amazing. 12/10 on this place, it was so good we picked up take out on our last night

we found a great juice bar called The Local which we hit every day for juice or a smoothie or a snack, great place. For beers we hit Basecamp, pretty good brews and snacks and a cool place to hang.

Sat nite we went to Mariposa, which is all anyone there talks about. It was an act of congress to get a table and it was a little more formal than we wanted but well worth it. The place is beautiful and the views are stunning. Possibly the best steak and mussel dishes I’ve ever had. If you go to Sedona it’s a must. 9/10 (it is very expensive)

sun night we ate at fresh and natural Thai and this was the best bang for the buck we had. Really nice place with friendly people, order at the counter and they bring it out. Fantastic 12/10

the only outing we had time for was a drive up schnebly hill road in the Jeep (do not attempt in a car, but it was fun) and a hike up to the cowpies. One of the most awe inspiring experiences I’ve ever had. Not to get too woowoo on you but you can feel the power of this place. Just spectacular

on Sunday we moved to the eagle dancer resort up in the hills LINK. I’ve stayed in a lot of cool places but this one might be the best. Only 4 rooms total and we just got lucky and had the place to ourselves for both nights. Right next to the casita we were in was a salt water pool, sauna, dry sauna and hot tub, all facing the rocks. I felt like a damn Rockefeller. It’s on a 5 acre natural tract that is absolutely beautiful and has the best views in Sedona. Highly highly recommend if you can swing it. We only did the two nights due to cost but it was more than worth it. We had masseuse’s come and did some meditation and otherwise just relaxed. Incredible. 15/10 on that.

I didn’t take a bunch of pix but all these places are well photographed and easily found. Here’s the one photo I did take…a squadron of javelinas that hung out with us around the the room

the drive back to PHX was beautiful…more rocks and formations transitioning into saguaro desert (then urban sprawl). Great airport there easy in and out

We will definitely go back to Sedona

I took the wife a couple of months ago. Pisa Lisa was great, Mariposa was incredible, and the ones I'll add to your list are Cowboy Club for lunch (have a margarita), the Vault (another great view at dusk with dinner), and SaltRock (best cocktails of the trip, and another view).

I love Sedona.

We drove down to Sedona from the Grand Canyon, through Oak Creek Canyon. That is another beautiful drive.

We were talking to an obviously gay guy in a shop, and he told us that the people in Sedona fell into three groups: really rich, crystal worshipers, and "the rest are just woo woo foo foos!"

I will say I will drastically disagree with your assessment of Pisa Lisa v Mariposa. Mariposa, to me, was a MUCH better restaurant and it was not even close. It was actually a very, very good restaurant and would have been in any city. Pisa Lisa is just ok to me.

Elote Cafe was very overrated to me but still good

I loved Sedona. I had a great time there and it is stunningly beautiful. Expensive place though.

One night we were sitting in the enclosed patio of our Airbnb and heard a bunch of rustling, a first we thought it was dogs then saw it was javalinas. Freaked my wife out but was pretty cool

similar but without the hallucinogens, although the whole time I was wishing we had LOL. We are going to try some of the techniques here at home with some shrooms and see what happens.

what we did do was some pretty powerful juju on its own
