My wife and daughter are planning a summer beach trip. My daughter is 6 and this is our first beach trip with her. My parents never brought me on one as a kid and I’ve also been building a business so time has been on short supply. Enough is enough so we’re going. Personally, I’m not a huge beach guy but they really want to go so I’m booking it.

We live in Atlanta area so looking to drive ~4-5 hours and looking for some recommendations. We were thinking Myrtle Beach but I’ve heard it’s pretty dirty. Hilton Head was thrown around but not sure if there is a lot to do outside of golf. I would like to avoid 30A because of the crowds but I’m imagining it’s gonna be crowded wherever we go.

Thank you for any ideas.

I get a little burned out on the panhandle and how commercial/touristy/overcrowded it's become but with the info you've provided Miramar Beach would fit the bill. I still enjoy it there and plenty for the 6 yr old to do.

Miramar Beach

Quick look on VRBO has rentals around $1,500 for Thur-Sun stay. Is that pretty normal?

Seems about right. I booked one in ariel dunes in miramar for 4 nights in July and it came out to about 1300.

a little advice from dad to dad. wherever you go, pick a spot with a kid-friendly pool. when my girls were that age, we spent more time at the pool than the beach. and bring a wagon.....you'll be transporting toys, floats, etc. back and forth. Like you, I'm not a huge fan of the beach. Your daughter will enjoy it if it's OB or 30A.

Myrtle beach is gross

If you want less crowds and cheaper prices on the gulf coast, book after Labor Day. If you must go in the summer check out Mexico Beach or Cape San Blas

I feel your pain.

Been a few years since I’ve been to Hilton Head but I always enjoyed it. Usually stay at Sea Pines. They have some variety there, South Beach with the Salty Dog Cafe stuff and then Harbour Town. Horseback riding and nature tours etc. Not sure if any of that kind of stuff interests you but for a non-beach person like me it is something to do besides the beach. Also, I will say the Atlantic beach is very different from the Gulf beaches so might want to take that into consideration.

Go south of Myrtle Beach just a bit. Garden City Beach, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach and Pawleys Island are all nice places to spend a few days. And there are some great restaurants down that way.

There are uncrowned parts of 30a, If you do the week with minimal driving you can have a really chill time. Just have to do it right.

If you want a nice beach, Florida panhandle should be your destination.

Navarre is a little quieter than PCB and Destin.

It's because there is something that isn't part of a web address in the parenthesis "(Check out this Vrbo rental:"
