Considering the price of gas and having to stop at a Buc-ee’s every 3 hrs, it’s probably cheaper to fly these days.

Seeing the clientele for airlines these days pretty much confirms it.

I've had a ton of success lately flying United to Air Canada. Almost no issues to past few months

Every time I try to fly American I seem to get screwed

Had success on em all, been screwed by them all.

It's the worst business model for consumers I can think of.

It makes me think of going to a restaurant and ordering the Osso Bucco and paying up front picking out exactly how you want it. Then, minutes before you're supposed to eat the waitress comes to you and say's 'Sorry sir, but we no longer have Ossu Bucco I am going to bring you some eggplant parmesan."

I don't want or like eggplant parmesan can I have something else and get the refund difference?

Oh no sir..we're still going to charge you for the osso bucco but you can order something else and after you're done eating you can call customer service and ask for compensation in the form of a gift certificate to come back at a later time and order something else.

Had a similar situation with American. Have always had good luck with United except not having any cabin crew and delayed for 6 hours a few weeks ago.

Recent trip abroad and I can safely say that air travel has made a steep decline over the last two years. Lost baggage on way there and back, delays, incomplete rebooking, etc. Their computer systems on allied airlines do not communicate and the training is lacking for all staff involved in the booking/ rebooking process. I can’t see an end because they have no incentive to improve. Airports (anecdotally) are more packed than I have ever seen them. I just kept saying to myself with the technology we have in 2024, it’s hard to believe there is this much red tape to get anything done. Manually entering baggage numbers from one airline to another to ensure they get to where they are going for example (they didn’t. Twice.)

What airline are you using if the clientele is worse than Bucees?!

They can’t possibly be worse than American. Yeah, got stuck in Dallas for two days and they offered me a room at some fleabag hotel after I stood in line forever.

You were fortunate. I had to argue with them to get a hotel room after they stranded me in Dallas

So, we DID get there Sunday, at 1:30 PM.

Cut some things out of the trip agenda, hustled faster than normal and had longer days of sightseeing, but still had a pretty good time.

On Tuesday we get to the airport in Rapid City with plenty of time to spare. I go to the bathroom; flight gets delayed by an hour. We check the numbers; it may be tight but we can still make our connection in Denver.

Then the flight gets delayed ANOTHER hour, so that connection's off the table. I go back to talk to the ticket agents; they were no help and United had nothing else for us to get home on time, but thankfully the daughter got on her phone and did the research on other flights, called the United help line, and had us switched to an American flight that was leaving Rapid City in less than 20 minutes to Dallas (and from there on an AA flight to New Orleans). AA's gate agents printed our boarding passes and we got on their plane with minutes to spare.

So United screwed up every aspect of our flights, and in the end it was American, not United, got us home.

NEVER AGAIN.

I've had REALLY shitty luck with AA in the past that I swore them off for good.

Like another poster said, it seems like they all have issues, especially in the last few years.

I don't fly that much but I've RARELY had issues with Delta.

I have status with American too. My American flight last week that connected at DFW to my final destination was awful. It was all about equipment or crew issues. We were delayed overnight outbound causing us to spend a night near the CLT airport instead of the Caribbean. We were delayed 3 hours coming home.
CLT is the problem here.
6 hours of delays there a couple of weeks ago.

Something similar happened to us a couple years ago. Night before a trip to Italy UNITED canceled a 12 pm ish MSY to IAD. Just straight up canceled with no rebook. We were Polaris and gold status and I do use the United Quest card. I called and they rebooked us on an earlier out of MSY then had to sit in Dulles all day for the overnight to Italy. That was delayed due to incoming aircraft. We missed all our connections in Brussels and arrived in Italy exhausted and a day late with no luggage. All of this to say I just booked LFT to FCO. If shenanigans occur again I’ll be looking to hop in the car and get myself some to IAH or even MSY then to JFK or ATL. Also if I hadn’t called immediately we would have just been SOL. They made no attempt and planes were full. Also, trip insurance!
