We leave next Friday for 4 days at Universal. Wife told my 8 year old if she read all the Harry Potter books we would take her....so here we are. Staying at Hard Rock. Any suggestions on places to eat, rides, etc.

You are a step ahead of the game by staying at Hard Rock. Get to park early. Have a plan of what you want to do. Park is less crowded early and late.

Hard Rock is by far the best hotel. It's an easy walk or boat ride to the parks / city walk.

Use early admission (Islands of Adventure is the only one during your stay) and ride Velocicoaster or Hagrids first. If you do Velocicoaster first, check for virtual line availability at 8:45 for Hagrids. You can use expres pass for everything else.

Universal will seem empty until you get to the back of the park where Potter land is. Express pass is good everywhere in Universal.

Food

The Kitchen at Hard Rock is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The margherita flat bread is awesome and is also available at the bar late night.

The Palm is also great in the Hard Rock.

City walk - Vivo is probably the best. Kids like Toothsome and the food and desert is good. I dont care Antijos and NBC Brew is fun for games but other than that its decent bar food. We have not eaten anywhere else in City Walk.

Park food - Surprisingly Mythos and Lombards are very good restaurants.

If you have time walk or take the boat to Portofino Bay. Two really good italian restaurants and the resort is cool to walk around.

Stayed 4 days at hard rock in June. We freakin loved it. No really good food recs but not far from hard rock we got pizza one night from a place called Giordanos that made a really good deep dish pizza. Universal is a blast man. Y’all will have a great time. My crew talked me into riding the velocicoaster and it’s pretty wild. Hagrids motor bike ride is my favorite ride out of all the parks. Enjoy.

The bike is a completely different and better experience than the side car.

Make dinner/lunch reservations if you can. Some places are impossible to just walk in and eat. Since you are getting the express pass, you can just wander around without a plan for rides. Wait times will be comically short. The Irish pub in Studios is our go to joint for beer, food, and rest. Bring some cash, the staff at Hard Rock is very aggressive with the luggage. You'll love it there

I couldn’t agree more. Felt like a badass on the bike. What a fun ride.

Food

I like Wimpys in the comic strip alley section of Islands of adventure. You can just walk up and order burgers and chicken tender baskets and eat at one of the tables right there. We thought the food there was actually pretty solid and had very good portions for the price. One thing we also did was kept peanut butter n jelly makings in our room at hard rock and would ease back over to the hotel for lunch and a little break. Hard rock is SO close that it’s not a chore at all to do that and will save you a ton of $.

I’m very familiar with Disney but know nothing about universal. Planning to go this summer. Not as our primary entertainment for our trip but while we are in town. Maybe a dumb question but you do both parks in a day with their version of the fast pass and see everything or do you need a day at each park to check the block and say you did it all?

you can see it all with one day between both parks with fast pass. I think two is perfect but one is totally doable. Just make sure you have the park hopper so you can take the Hogwarts express between the parks.

You can do it all with the fastpass. Just get there at opening and you'll be done before closing. Do one park, get on the Hogwarts Express, ride over to the other. I'd start at IOA since they have new rides, then go over to the other park.
