I'm mostly going to Mexico for summiting some volcanoes, and this will be my first trip to the country. I'm not sure whether I should fly into Mexico City or PVR. I plan on renting a car for the time I'm there so that I don't have to rely on public transportation during a pandemic.

How is traveling in Jalisco and Colima states? Anyone on this board been up Orizaba, Colima, Toluca, Iztaccihuatl, or Malinche?

I'm also deciding whether or not to bring my personal equipment for snow travel, or just rent while I'm down there for the couple days as needed.

thanks guys!

Would you consider going to Costa Rica instead.?Arenal . The city of La Fortuna. I’ve been there a few times this year, it’s really nice and affordable, safe , and might have what you are looking for.

From a thread last month

Jrv2damac in Toluca

Flying into MEX would seem to be cheaper, centrally located for all your summits except Colima, more options for dining/drinking/gear/guides if desired.

Jrv2damac sounds like he has multiple trips to Mexico under his belt, hopefully he sees this thread and can chime in.

I would fly in to MEX, rent car then stay in Puebla. Puebla is one of the safest cities in Mexico. It is also in the center of Iztac, malinche, and orizaba.

I have been up malinche. It does not require any skill, only a 2 hour hike from a camping area then a short scramble to the peak.

People have died on Orizaba, it has permanent ice cap.
